“Loved the hotel, hated the firealarm.”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

We spendt two weeks in this hotel, we had a great room overlooking the beach and ocean. The tub was a bit small, not fit for two people, but the bed was very good. The gym was small, but the pool was great! The food at this hotel is great, the breakfast especially!! Get the eggs benedicte and pancakes, YUM! But i breaksaft is not ink. in the room price. The hotels fixes everything for you, so just ask about trips, taxi and info, but the firealram went of one night and they had BIG truble to get it to stop... It went of in just our room and NO we did not smok inside... the 4 (!) time they came to look at it Iscreemed "just take it down" and then there was no more problem :) The bar next door is a gay-transvestit bar known for its dragshown, its so fabolous!! I highly recoment this place, but remember you $$$$, its not cheap.

Stay oct 24-27. This is a fantastic and beautifully appointed hotel but the bar on the street below played loud thumping live music until 11 (ok) and 1:30am (not ok!) on another of the 3 nights I stayed here. The only night there was no music was when Sandy was blowing too hard for anyone to be outside and on this night the noise from the wind howling (i know this was unusual!) was so loud it was also impossible to sleep. I know the hotel can't control the bars next door but maybe soundproof/noise reducing glass? I tried earplugs, iPod music, pillows on my head and sleeping pills, but the music was so penetrating that it came through all of the above. The staff were concerned when I advised the next day (after the 1:30 session) and said i should have called. however, on the first night it stopped just after 11 and as well, i figured it was so loud the front desk staff would have had to have heard this too and if it was not meant to be they would have asked for it to stop. I got a small amount off my bill but I would have so much preferred for my $2000 stay to get at least 1 decent nights sleep.
On a positive note, the food and room service was excellent and the staff lovely and very helpful.

Truly fantastic hotel with immaculately decorated, large rooms facing the ocean. Perfect escape from the noise and "vibe" of south beach.

Service has been fantastic and a great place to lounge and enjoy the world pass by particularly for lunch/brunch. The restaurant need a new menu and consistent servings and more choice but for a hotel that is in transition of ownership, it is doing remarkably well. With a new food/beverage manager, it will be a perfect vacation spot

Room Tip: Higher floors , corner rooms are the most spacious and have the best views. Having said that, all of...

As a silver certified mystery shopper in the hospitality industry, I would like to say that this hotel/boutique is definitely one of the best we've stayed in in Miami. The decor and ambiance is classic, elegant, luxurious. Besides a little fiasco with our credit card being overcharged ($150/night room deposit = $600), swiped multiple times, then going over the limit (all at check-in), and a really rude restaurant manager (not Jeanine), and receiving the wrong food on the beach...our stay was phenomenal. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a warm and welcoming staff. 2 "Royal Tides" signature drinks to start off what would be a wonderful escape from the daily hustle and bustle of work and 6 children at home. We stayed on an upper level. Perfect view of the beach. Couldn't hear outside noise. Other hotel guests were pretty courteous. No complaints in that area. The setting outside was so romantic. Loved late nights talking in the oversized chairs was priceless. Because of some of the problems, we got to meet the hotel's general manager, who by the way, was awesome, brilliant, personable and totally competent. Will we return to the tides? Absolutely! Next time though, we will pay cash for our deposit :) *Lenny was amazing!

Room Tip: Ask for higher floors.

Great hotel! We had a room with view directly to the beach which was really beautiful and the room was nicely decorated. We slept very well. The people at the reception are very attentive and give good recommendations we were recommended a very good place for breakfast as well as an excellent cuban restaurant. The hotel has chairs with mattresses, towels and umbrellas directly at the beach which is very convenient as you don't have a long way to get there and everything is already set up. The beach there was great and the water transparent. We would return anytime to this hotel

When I come to Miami beach, I usually stay at a boutique hotel off the main drag of Collins and Ocean....but after reading the reviews of the King and Grove Tides, decided to give it a try. While it was a pleasant stay, I can't say I will return. As in many of the other reviews, service was very good and always with a smile. The welcome cocktail was a nice perk, and the one breakfast we had at the hotel (while it took several tries to get the order correct) was good. However, the ocean view room we stayed in had old, worn furniture and a stained rug. This seemed to be a theme throughout the hotel. While the first impression is cool/chic style - closer inspection left me not wanting to sit on the dirty upholstery.
The pool was ok - in the back of the hotel, overlooking Collins Ave. About 20 lounge chairs - so at busier times, that may be an issue. We didn't use the "gym" - which was a walk-in closet size room with basic equipment. Free Wi-Fi was very spotty and did not work at the pool.
The location was average. I had the impression it was right on the beach - being on Ocean Drive. However that far south on Ocean you have to cross the road and walk through the park to get to the beach. Not that big a deal, but I was expecting a set up similar to places a bit further north on the strip. Once on the beach, chairs, towels and umbrella are included in your stay - definetly a plus. At night, make sure you are ok with very loud noise from the bar next door - which I would not exactly describe as upscale.
Overall, an acceptable experience - but not what I would have expected from the reviews on TA - or the price we paid. Will stay elsewhere next trip.

I stayed here 2 nights in September. The room I stayed in had an awkward layout but was very spacious and comfortable. Having a walk in closet with changing area, mini bar, and safe was a nice touch. The view of the street and ocean from the room was gorgeous. The hotel is only 300 yards from the water and works in conjunction with the Boucher Brothers to provide guests with beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels which is great. The pool was a convenient quite getaway from the hustle and bustle of South Beach. With the hotel being located right in the heart of everything I expected it to be very noisy. I was pleasantly surprised when the noise ended around 11pm. I found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: All rooms have an ocean view.
