Imagine my surprise when checking into a $400 a night hotel and it was run down and a bit dirty. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, but that didn't make up for the fact that our room was dated, the shower was awful, and the carpets were filthy.

On top of it all, we found downtown Miami to be in similar disrepair - dirty, run down, and construction everywhere.

Don't waste your money on the Hyatt.

I stayed at the Hyatt because it was the host hotel for the Miami marathon. It proved to be a miserable host. I, and several other runners, waited hours for our rooms. We all waited in the noisy and crowded lobby, stood in line to re-check with the front desk, and nothing happened. The staff and manager never acted to make sure the rooms were made ready beyond a single call to housekeeping. The Hyatt staff provided completely unacceptable service since everyone wanted to rest and relax for the 6am race start.

Stayed here 1 night post-cruise. Check-in staff was very friendly and was able to get us checked in early. We had a 2 double room non-smoking facing the Miami River. First thing we noticed - one of the beds had sand on the bedspread from someone maybe putting a shoe on it. We didn't need the bedspread anyhow so off it went. The hotel was full so we just shrugged it off as an oversight on the cleaning staff. We tried to use the Concierge services to do early check-in for our airflights and the 2 working there looked confused and then pointed us to business services. There is a charge to use the internet $30 an hr. using their laptops and 25 cents for printouts. I thought this was extreme so we asked someone at the front desk to assist. Joseph helped us out and within a few min's we were checked in for the flights. That afternoon we checked out the bathroom area in our room. DISGUSTING. Mold everywhere. I took pictures to send to Hyatt. The floor wasn't vaccumed either and we found food between the nightstand and bed, mold on the wall and a few dead bugs (at least they weren't alive). It's such a shame as this is a beautiful hotel with nice dining and sports bar. All it would take is a good cleaning staff and some clorox-cleanup to bring it up to code.

This hotel itself and the staff are very adequate but being located in downtown Miami is a hinderance. It is far from the beaches and its pool and health facilities are very small, considering it is in Florida. The surrounding area is undergoing a great deal of building and renovation so currently it is noisy; I am sure it will improve in the next few years. Overall a good hotel for business meetings but not for vacationers.

We stayed there for two nights after a cruise so we could see some of Miami. Like other reviewers, it is downtown and not close to the beach, so there isn't much to see other than Bayside. However, we easily found the bus system and travelled to South Beach.

The room was really nice, clean and comfortable. We overlooked the drawbridge and actually enjoyed watching the boats go up and down the canal. I didn't find the noise at all bothersome.

Service was great we had a problem with the inhouse safe and they completely replaced it for us as it had been broken. The cost is more than we would normally pay for a hotel, but it was included in the cruise package we took so we quite enjoyed it.

I stayed at the Hyatt with 6 of my family mammbers in early October. We were there b/c my grandfather had been flown to Jackson Memorial Hospital from down south. The staff was extremely helpful with directions and especially when my car broke down and I had no idea where to go. We ended up staying over a week at the Hyatt and I was very pleased, we got a nice discount b/c of our circumstances and a lot of compassion that was very comforting. Thank you Hyatt!

I too was hesitant after reading the reviews, but found many of them very helpful in that they explained what the reviewer did or didn't like and gave a prpspective traveler some ideas of what to request or request not to have.

We stayed on the Regency Club floor which included continental breakfast and hors d'oeuvres in the late afternoon. The rooms were very clean, modern, comfortable and spacious. We had a king sized bed and it was as comfortable as my own bed at home. We were traveling with our 17 year old son and asked for a rollaway bed which was delivered within minutes. The mattress was thick and he too was very comfortable. We had a corner room so that even with the additional bed, there was enough room so we weren't on top of one another.

Keep in mind that this hotel is in Miami and not Miami Beach so some of the noise, expense and congestion mentioned in earlier reviews, is exactly what you would find in most major cities. The difference is the city and bay views you get if your on a relatively high floor, are extraordinary. The convenience to South Beach, Bal Harbor, Coral Gables, Miami seaport, etc. makes this hotel a wonderful choice. The hotel is near highways and walking distance to good public transportation. The hotel has a small fitness center, and a small, but very nicely appointed pool and seating area.

We stayed for 4 nights during Christmas week and had a wonderful stay. They have an Enterprise right on site which also is very convenient. I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel. If it's possible, I would recommend upgrading to the Regency Club floors.
