Description: Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is a showcase for the cuisine of Chef/Owner Michael Schwartz, with prices designed to encourage frequent dining. This unpretentious bistro seats 90 indoors and out, with another 14 seats at a handsome bar. Doubling as a casual neighborhood dining spot and a culinary destination, the bright, airy space in Miami’s evolving Design District showcases Schwartz’s trademark new American cuisine at prices designed to encourage frequent dining. Open daily for lunch and dinner, the menu is chock full of choices encouraging everything from a light bite to a multi-course feast. A quick glance at the menu and Michael's intentions for this restaurant are revealed. Notable is the frequency of the word homemade in the descriptions of dishes -- be it pasta, French fries or rabbit terrine. At the same time, Michael's takes advantage of the Chef’s decades-long relationships with winemakers to offer diners the opportunity to try a variety of wines at great value.

The food here was amazing. I mean, completely fabulous, mouthwatering, wish I had more room to eat more! I loved every single thing I had. The portions were actually a typical meal size, and not 2-3 times what you would normally eat, which is what can be found at most restaurants. As a vacationer, i appreciated that I got just enough, but didn't have to throw away food because I wasn't taking the extras home to the fridge. I will say though, that i felt the food was slightly overpriced. Even cutting 2-3 dollars off the entrees would have sufficed- I just had a bit of sticker shock for an appetizer, 2 drinks, and 2 entrees. Overall, I would definitely visit this restaurant again- the food is just too good to pass up.

With all of the hype about MGFD we expected more. The ceviche was fair, the prok belly more belly than pork but the kinchi salad was great. The mutton snapper filets were dry and tasteless.
Our waiter had to be asked three times to find out where our side order of cauliflower was and it finally arrived after we had finished our main courses. The manager came by and apologized graciously and compted us a dessert and took off the cost of the late dish.
It was less of an experience than we expected and there are many better chioces in Miami.

We went to this restaurant with very high expectations on the basis of the reviews (here and elsewhere) and the menu on their web site. Unfortunately we were not impressed with the food or the service. It seemed the kitchen was a bit heavy handed - the dishes we sampled were somewhat excessively flavored in some cases or lacked the requisite delicacy in others. The case in point was the Brussels sprout appetizer. The waitress brought us a different wine than the one we ordered, which was twice as expensive. If we had not been careful to check the label we could have ended up tasting and drinking the wrong wine. We were not convinced it was an honest mistake - we looked too much like tourists! We have travelled a lot and been to many bad/good/great restaurants and have little patience for waitress attitude. The overall atmosphere is one of a very popular restaurant especially among the youngish Miami crowd that dine out frequently. Depending on what you are looking for when you go to a restaurant Michael's place may be just for you; we're not going to knock it down. It is not for us.

Michael is the new trendy spot in the design district.
Always super busy, you have to wait for a table even if you have reserved it for at least 30 minutes.
The location is a little bit in the middle of nowhere. Maybe better for a lunch or brunch being next to the new lux stores and few step from the galleries but distant from all the nighlife destinations.
Food is ok, but anything that remains in your memories
