Description: Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is a showcase for the cuisine of Chef/Owner Michael Schwartz, with prices designed to encourage frequent dining. This unpretentious bistro seats 90 indoors and out, with another 14 seats at a handsome bar. Doubling as a casual neighborhood dining spot and a culinary destination, the bright, airy space in Miami’s evolving Design District showcases Schwartz’s trademark new American cuisine at prices designed to encourage frequent dining. Open daily for lunch and dinner, the menu is chock full of choices encouraging everything from a light bite to a multi-course feast. A quick glance at the menu and Michael's intentions for this restaurant are revealed. Notable is the frequency of the word homemade in the descriptions of dishes -- be it pasta, French fries or rabbit terrine. At the same time, Michael's takes advantage of the Chef’s decades-long relationships with winemakers to offer diners the opportunity to try a variety of wines at great value.

Recommended by our concierge at the EPIC hotel...a great choice! Imaginative, delicious, fresh food, moderately priced...Attractive upscale, cafe feeling in the Design District. Check out the Michael's-brewed ale...a true winner! If you're lucky enough to get Javier as your waiter, you'll get excellent service--and tips about the area--from a first-rate server!

this place was so amazing i cant even describe it. first we started with crispy pork belly which was out of this world then i had a huge porterhouse steak that was cooked to perfection and came with rendered duck fat on top. the waiter was great and he paired our dinner with a great wine. i cannot talk better about this place it was really a great experience and a wonderful atmosphere in the outside air. iu recommend to anyone!

Brunch for two on the patio
Where do I start ? What a treat ! We had 6 meals in Miami all at foodie places but MGFD topped them all by a mile. Fabulous stuff.
the food - the food itself. Innovative, tasty, clever little dishes that have you begging for more. The most creative found we have found outside of California and NY and up there with the very best of them. So good we bought the book...We tried almost every dish and spent a small fortune but absolutely worth it - Miami you are luck to have this place.
service - our waitress was always attentive and juniors on hand to help with drinks etc. cannot be faulted
atmosphere - not a luxury restaurant...much better...a fun one with great convivial atmosphere with patrons that go there for the food and not to be seen
not so great
frankly, crappy neighbourhood and it took us ages to get a taxi back to Miami Beach. Book one ahead maybe ?

Great food, great atmosphere, great service - an experience your taste buds will enjoy without the eccentricities of molecular cuisine. Yum yum yum. My first port of call whenever I should be in the area again (I mean Florida..it's worth a big detour). Thanks guys.

What a gem of Miami. Love the innovative consistant menu that's not price gauged like on the beach. Love sitting at the bar and getting small bites. The Fois Pate is pretty insane.

Restaurant had indoor seating and a nice outside seating area. The server was friendly and the service was good as was the food, but it was nothing to write home about. In weighing the quality of food versus price, I expected much more considering Anthony Bourdain's recommendation. We gave it an average rating since we had better food for the price.
