“Neat place”

Interesting little diner in crappy area. Food ok, prices good. Staff nice, but not all it was hyped up to be.

“It's "Cheers" without the beer”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

This very small diner is legendary in Miami. Known to be a place for "movers and shakers" to go to lunch. Unpretentious with parking in the rear. Simple fare, some attitude (which makes it fun). Blink and you'll miss it as you drive by.

“This is the real deal”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Wonderful old diner. It is located in a dodgy sort of neighborhood but the food is good and the building is really quite cool. We had eggs benedict with potatoes and it was very good. Our kids had pancakes, waffles, French toast. All the portions were ok except the French toast which was a little small so order a side of bacon just to make sure you have enought to eat.
The coffee was great and it felt like a place locals ate at. There was a policeman having breakfast and another couple who were tourists but the rest were just locals.
The waitress was a hoot. It was like having your grandma serve you breakfast.
We were staying at the Marriott Biscayne Bay so this was a short walk.
If you are in the area certainly worth a stop by.

“Try it - You Might Like It”
Reviewed January 13, 2013 via mobile

We looked this up on line to find a place that served breakfast all day. At first we walked up and only saw the old fashioned horseshoe counter full of people and turned to leave when the owner popped out and said it would oly be 5 minutes to seat the 4 of us. He was right and we sat down and we all ordered breakfast. I had the Spanish omelet with spicy potatoes and it was good but a little too much salsa on it. Daughter had banana pancakes and they were okay. Other daughter had eggs benedict w/ smoked salmon and it was a very large portion and very good. We saw lots of lunch dishes go past as it was noon and they looked very good and home cooked items. It was fun to go one time but we would not seek this place out again w/ so many places to try in Miami.

“Update it? No. It's a perfect flash from the past. Enjoy.”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

Standard hearty diner fare for breakfast and lunch. Some waitresses have worked here longer than you've been alive. A few minor cosmetic imperfections just speak to the S&S' historic authenticity. I gave it a 5 for atmosphere while acknowledging that some viewpoints would give it a zero if possible. It's a question of whether you appreciate real, soulful places like this that won't be around forever. Eventually some idiot developer will come along to buy up the entire block and put up a Gap/Limited or something equally vapid.

Parking is available in the rear—just use the alley.

To prevent misunderstanding or confusion: a few years ago S&S Diner did take over the comparably-furnished dining area at another landmark, Allen's My Pharmacy on the west edge of Coral Gables, on the SW corner of Red Road and SW 57 Avenue. Similar menu, similar experience.
