Very nice atmosphere, feels more sophisticated than most restaurants in Miami, not ridiculously overpriced but not a cheap restaurant by any means. Seafood is very fresh and the jalapeno cornbread is so good.

Nice and cosy setting where the service was nice. Food was not exceptional. Would I go back? Yes, but remembering that it was not a 'wow' place. Prices were skewed to the higher end.

Well served, fresh oysters . Good wine list. Friendly service. I found lot of local people, that demonstrates the quality of food that for sure has the same patterns since long time.

Well you gotta be a fan of seafood and shellfish first and foremost so if quake at the thought of eating sorta slimy live oysters, I don't think the oyster bar is for you. If, however, you love to slurp the briny goodness of juicy li'l chunks of previously living mollusks from their little comfortable homes and swishing them about in your mouth with tangy tabasco and lemon juice - pull up a chair!

The other caveat is seafood, and shellfish in general - can bust a boy's budget so you have to take it slow and steady; you want a bang for your buck but you don't want low budget seafood that will send you to toilet on your knees. The River Oyster Bar is chic...tony...usually crowded with the well heeled set slurping martinis and aforementioned food; can I afford it? UH YEAH YOU CAN because they have a great happy hour EVERY WEEKDAY from 4 to 7 where the briny little yummy shelled jewels are half off; umami oysters at $2.75 each are now under $1.40...a dozen kumamotas (so darn big and yummy yum yum in the tummy tum) at $3.00 are no longer $36.00 but now $18.00 - in Kabbalah the #18 stands for "Chai" - Life - now that's living it up!!!

River Oyster Bar has moved to the top of my list for fresh seafood in Miami. I went with my husband and another couple on a Monday night, and had great service and food. I've seen some bad reviews that might be a result of the weekend rush, not that this is an excuse for the restaurant, but we had a great experience on a not-as-busy Monday night (although the restaurant was still very full).

I don't remember what we started with - but the apps were ok. For mains we got lobster pot pie, which was phenomenal, the gnocchi which was a generous portion, the black grouper, which I was told was a little on the dry side, and I got the grilled snapper with scotch bonnet vinaigrette. The snapper was perfectly cooked and the vinnaigrette was perfection, I could have used three more servings of it.

Pricey for Miami, but you're paying for the setting as well as nicely prepared, fresh seafood, and it's right by Brickell nightlife.

We went with a toddler and the hostess was a little iffy about whether we could get a table with enough room for the stroller (they only had one high chair and it was already being used), but that was resolved in 5 minutes. If you're going with kids you should probably let them know in advance.
