My husband and I go to Morton's Miami every couple of months and can always count on a good steak and excellent service.
Last week we decided to take advantage of the Miami Spice offer of $39.00 for a fixed price dinner (good at many restaurants through August & September).
When we sat down, the waiter handed us a regular priced menu. (Every other restaurant gives you the special menu right away.) When we asked for the Miami Spice menu, we got two pieces of paper- the Miami Spice menu at $39.00 and a Summer Special menu at $45.00.
Looking at the two, the summer special was the same thing, only $6.00 more. When we asked what the difference was, the waiter gave us a convoluted non-answer that we didn't understand. So, we went for the Miami Spice offer at $39.00
Last year is was $35.00, but we know prices go up, so no big deal. What we did mind was that Morton's is very obviously cutting corners this year. They took away the side dish that used to to be included and cut the portion sizes as well. The appetizers and deserts were miniatures of their former selves and the filet went from 8 oz. to 6 oz.
Overall, the meal was good, but we felt that we'd been taken. With the extra items we had to pay for and the reduced portions, we figured that this $39.00 special was not a good value. To add insult to injury, the valet parking charge was another $8.00 plus tip.
The bottom line is this... I'll have to think long and hard before I go back to Morton's.
