This symphonic band consists of Miamians who for the most part are not professional musicians. They may be teachers, sales people, accountants, lawyers, business owners, nurses, just to give a few examples. If you get a chance to catch one of their performances- take it! Tickets are only $5 for students and $15 for adults. It's usually not a problem to get tickets at the box office the night of the event, but you can also purchase them through their website. Family concerts are a wonderful opportunity to even take younger kids and expose them to some high quality life music. Their concerts take place in different venues such as The Gusman Concert Hall at the UM Campus, Pinecrest Gardens and the Biltmore Hotel for the 4th of July show. The Holiday Concert in December mustn't be missed. They have a wonderful master of ceremony at their performances who introduces the pieces played and gives some additional information to them.
"The Greater Miami Symphonic Band began in 1979. Since the first rehearsal with forty-five musicians of diverse backgrounds and musical abilities, the Band has grown to a present membership of approximately eighty-five.
GMSB members are adults who volunteer their time and talents to the Band. The purpose is to provide the Miami area with a first-class musical aggregation and to provide opportunity for musical expression in an organized concert band. The Band performs publicly on a regular basis at various indoor and outdoor locations, giving the residents of the area an opportunity to hear the beauty and diversity of the symphonic band repertoire."
