“My new favorite sushi place!!!!”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

It's not very often when a restaurant exceeds my expectations but Machiya, did!!! When great food, excellent service and beautiful ambiance occur at the same time something magical happens. The sushi was amazing as well as innovative. I especially liked the seared albacore in truffle soy and the sushi tacos. I had the sea bass and my wife had the salmon entree. Both were spectacular! We will definately be back soon.

“Just a perfect Friday sushi”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

Excellent duck rolls, the most beaufiful and tasty avocado-crab salad, and very nice shrimp sushi. The perfect dinner experience was completed by live jazz music, friendly staff and happy hour (apetizer included in the price of a drink).

“I can't remember when I've had sushi this good”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

Machiya, a recent entry in Miami Midtown, bills itself as serving modern Japanese food. I'm not sure what modern Japanese food is, but the sushi, which seems to be the menu mainstay, is simply outstanding. (There is little in the way of entrees.) The chefs trained under New York Iron Chef, Masahaaru Morimoto. The lollipop tuna roll (tuna and avocado in a cucumber wrapper) and the dragon roll (shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, eel and masago) can only be described as scrumptious. Ditto for the Machiya slider which, according to a neighboring diner, is made with Kobe beef. It's served with caramelized onions and a sauce that really isn't needed (though the neigboring diner claimed that the sauce made the burger). The crunchy Japanese roll (salmon, cream cheese and scallions, deep fried) also rates very high marks. Service was warm and friendly. Ambience was nothing special; although the ubiquitous pecussion sounds emanated from the sound system, the decibel level was sufficiently low to enable convesation without raised voices. Outdoor seating was ample, though the evening was a bit too chilly to give it a try. In sum, we found the sushi at Machiya to be really, really, really, really delicious.

“Midtown Gem”
Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

Awesome experience - the staff was very helpful in helping to select your meal. The drinks were quite good - try the lemon drink (yu-zu?) or the one with muddled blue berries. My favorites were the spicy tuna crispy rice and the sliders. They have many interesting items on the menu - I will be back for more. The waitress mentioned that Sunday night they have 50% off sushi rolls......

“Ready to be delighted, Was Not”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

Based on the website and the listed offerings, I thought this was going to be a real find in Midtown, where a number of different interesting dining options have recently opened. Wrong-o. The interior is quite bold in a self conscious way, and this is Miami so that goes with the territory. The food was really just ok - the ramen, the black cod, the sushi- all just ok. The sake (own brand) also ok. The cost - not cheap, but ok. In short, ok sums it up - but not worth my drive over the causeway.
