I have attended this Pritikin Center in Aventura twice and am saving up for another trip after a few years. If I had enough money, I would absolutely take a one-week trip here EVERY year. It is a wonderful place. If you have never been to Pritikin, the first trip, is draining. The lectures, exercise and MANY meals (you eat about 7 times per day)... small frequent meals to help boost your metabolism include food that are low-calorie but have lots of bulk/fiber. After two weeks, most men lose more weight than women (hormones in women seem to be more difficult to deal with) but everyone leaves FEELING much healthier and toned. The staff is wonderful. Ivan in the gym has been there for years. Unfortunately Chef Tom is no longer there but the new chef has his own style. The lectures are informative and they absolutely cater their talks to the average american that might not live the healthiest lifestyle. Yoga class in the morning with Sarah is worth it. Some of the exercise staff aren't as good as others but overall, you will enjoy burning off those calories. Dr. Bauer along with the rest of the staff will meet with you. Dr. Blum is GREAT - such a wonderful sense of humor. Dr. Fruge is the newer doctor -- good for women. Lifestyle coach Barbara Udell is a favorite -- she can relate to each of us and is an inspiration just to be around. Most people that take her Stop Smoking program, stay smoke-free. Jay Kenney is the nutritionist and is a bit too extreme in his thoughts on nutrition. The star of this Pritikin Center is JEFF Novick. He is entertaining in his lectures and appeals to everyone. In the lab you have the down-to-earth staff including paramedic, Jerry Valentino. The MAJOR drawback is the rooms where you have to stay. They are falling apart and it is a disgrace to see. I understand they have been doing major renovations but it is something to be aware of.
