“SONESTA COCONUT GROVE, is a plush, first class hotel, with fantasic staff!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2010

We had to travel under sad circumstances, the death of my mom, children's grandma,, and great grandmother. We were greeted so kindly, by wonderful staff. We had to do some room switching, having a suite and 2 other rooms. The staff, the facilities, the plushness I have trusted from Sonesta for many years. All of us wanted to do a special thank you to Nicole, Front Desk , who was so accommodating and kind! We were quite an extended family, and she did everything to make our visit, although it was a sad time, we were in great hands

If you're staying near Coconut Grove, then the Sonesta is really the only hotel to consider. Location (located accross the street from Coco-Walk basically), secure parking, friendly staff made our stay very enjoyable. We are cyclists and runners and were able to run right along Bayshore and bike up and around Key Biscayne. I highly recommend the Sonesta.

The room was really comfortable and very clean. The service was superb! Walking distance from the charming CocoWalk area and from the marina, yet far enough to not have to put up with the noise late at night.

I was expecting a normal room when I went to Sonesta and my actual room ended up having a kitchen, complete with dishes, oven, stove, etc. It was really great. The staff is very friendly and they gave us directions on where to go to eat, etc. I highly recommend the pizza place around the corner for a quick bite - the pizza is truly New York style (which was a very pleasant surprise since most places can't make true NY style pizza). There is some construction going on in the front of the hotel, but everything within the hotel is great.

To begin, I have traveled a great deal and want to say that I am not a fan of "larger" corporate hotels. However, our experience at the Sonesta rivaled many of the "Botique" hotels that we prefer. The entire staff was well informed, courteous, and very helpful. The overall ambiance was delightful. In particular the rooftop dining and pool were pleasant to the eye and taste, relaxing, quiet, with a great view of the Bay and sailboats especially early in the morning and at sunset. The restaurant is charming, the service was attentive, and the food well-prepared. Relaxing near the pool was delightful--just a few steps from the restaurant. The rooms were well appointed, very clean and quiet. The hotel location allowed us to peruse the shops that were just a few minutes from the front door. Overall, an excellent experience that we would repeat when we return to the Grove.

We were upgraded to a Bay View corner 2 bedroom condo. it was spectacular! The view of the marina and a nearby playground was so interesting, that even though we brought our books out to read, we ended up talking and watching the boats, the kids at the playground, the early morning bicycle riders, and of course, the sea and the sun. Even though Miami in June is quite hot, we always had a sea breeze, so we were completely comfortable! The Cocowalk open air "mall" is across the street when you walk out the back way. The rest of town offers great restaurants and shops. Don't miss Jaguar, our new favorite restaurant and also Green Street Cafe. Both are within easy walking distance. If you are a walker, take a stroll down to Miami City Hall and see all of the boats , both pleasure and commercial, along the way.

There are many restaurants, shops, a Starbucks, and a new movie theater, ice cream and live entertainment on the week-end at Cocowalk. Cocowalk is noisy on week-end nights, but we didn't hear a thing from our room, and slept really well. Every staff person at the Sonesta went out of their way to make sure that our needs were met. The little cafe on the pool level has the same spectacular view and the pool (at that level) is high enough that when you look over the pool, you only see sea and sky. The pool attendant may be a little too attentive for my taste...if you got up, he folded your clothes and rearranged towels, so it is always tidy. Beautiful space, super comfortable beds,.a well set up kitchen with full sized refrigerator, stacking washer dryer and surprise half bath were among the condo's many amenities that made this a perfect stay for all of us.

Oh, by the way, the Sonesta art collection is so fine that they have a brochure about the art. ask for it! Tip: self-park in the public parking next door to save a little money and avoid waiting for a valet. Note: the front of the hotel was being painted, so we used the back door. Also, next door, towards the water is a charming public library branch.

My husband and I have stayed at the Sonesta twice. We used to live in Miami and pass through Miami several times a year on our way to Latin America/Caribbean. This is a great area of Miami. It's great for walking around Coconut Grove and it's also close to Coral Gables and downtown. I usually like to stay in Coral Gables, but I was pretty happy with both my experiences at the Sonesta. The hotel is really pretty and modern. Our room was not huge in comparison to the conventional American style hotel room, but it was fine for two people. The bathroom was probably larger than most. The bed is extremely comfortable and the sheets very silky. It was one of the better hotel beds I've slept in. Everything was well cleaned. We were fortunate enough to have a room facing the bay, so we never had to deal with the noise from the neighboring club. This could change your experience dramatically, but I guess it's a risk you take when booking this hotel. As for the rudeness mentioned by many reviewers, I would say Miami in general is a rude town in comparison to most parts of the US. It's quite a culture shock. The people at the Sonesta are not rude. I found them helpful during both stays. It's probably good to keep cultural differences in mind during a trip to Miami.
