My wife and I stayed at the Sonesta Bayfront Hotel, Coconut Grove for a couple of nights at the end of a Florida holiday. Our room on the 16th floor was comfortable enough, but the sliding door to the balcony didn't lock properly and the curtains were frayed, which let the place down a little. We didn't know it when we booked, but the Coconut Grove Arts Festival was on over the weekend we were there and this is a massive event (c. 250 stalls I guess), with an excellent display of art, jewellery, glassware and pottery by exhibitors from all over the USA. The show kept us amused, which was lucky because there was no beach to speak of!
The best thing about the hotel was the restaurant; our waiter Humberto was great but the real star of the show is the restaurant manager Frank, who always seemd to be at work. He was friendly, welcoming, efficient and charming - he always had a smile on his face. Eat there and have some of the Peruvian themed food, which is superb.

You picked a great time to visit Coconut Grove as we celebrated the 50th Coconut Grove Art Festival. It begins right outside our front door so we are one of the best locations to stay for this event. We have also just completed an installation of new drapes in all of our guest rooms which we hope you will enjoy on your next visit. I will be sure to share your comments with our restaurant team. Thank you for staying with us.

The hotel is great-looking, in a good location if you want to hang out in "the Grove", or are going to the U of Miami. Try to get a high floor room facing the bay. I had a "city view" suite with a great wrap-around balcony, only problem was noise from the bars at night. It's a long drive to South Beach mainly because of traffic. If you're going to be going there a lot I would stay closer next time.

Sahegl12345,
Thanks for your recent visit to Coconut Grove. We are located near to Coral Gables and are a short drive to Miami Beach. We think our views of the bay are worth the trip alone but if you are not able to stay overnight, stop by and visit our Panorama Restaurant so you can enjoy the view and the great food.

Traveling on business and stayed here, as it was recommended by our travel agent. Great location, but the room was very small, but had a walk-in closet that seems to be wasted space. There was VERY little natural light making the room very dark. The biggest issue was the lack of feeling safe...the door did not have any type of chain/bolt on the door. The balcony is shared, so very concerning and the door to the balcony (can't really even call it a balcony, might be 6 sq feet) did not close very tightly so let in a lot of outside noise.

Bottom line would not recommend and will be looking for another alternative for a hotel in the area.

Dear Guest,
In addition to our guest room doors locking automatically when closed, all rooms are also equipped with a deadbolt which you can secure once inside the room. All balcony doors are also equipped with a lock. Some units have a floor to ceiling, wall to rail balcony divider which gives privacy and security to each room so that you cannot access two rooms from the same balcony.

clean, very miami. enjoyed john and caesar in the skyroom bar. very friendly and open. great shower and bath, good pressure and hot water. no complaints at all. close to everything. i really dont know what more you could want other than a $700 per night room where everyone treats you like a monarch, which is fine and very well done by the ritz for instance, but for a real life feeling of comfort and relaxation with no airs...this is a great place.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny"

Faram699,
We are pleased that you found our hotel to be a great location with everything you needed. The Coconut Grove Art Festival begins at outside our front door, so we are certainly the place to be for this annual event. We hope to see you again for next year’s event.

The hotel is beautiful with nice amenities and great location. We only stayed one night on a Thursday. We paid for a city view on Expedia and when we checked in they gave us a suite on the 19th floor with a partial bay view - great. All was well until we went to bed and the loud music outside started to play down the street at a local bar. I called the desk at 10 PM and they said it would quite at 11PM. It went till 3AM. I went to the desk at 1:30AM and they finally gave me another room on the front of the hotel which blocked out the music. Saw the Mgr. on check out and they would not comp. the room or give a discount since it was paid through Expedia. Said she would comp. the room on our next stay in a year. I said how can residents in the hotel partial condo and neighborhood put up with this terrible music that goes on until 3AM. She said they are working with the city to get it stopped. If music is on will not get a good night sleep.

Room Tip: If night music down the street forget it.

Thank you for sharing your comments about your stay. We appreciate the feedback as we work with the City regarding the music. When reservations are made via third party websites any cancellations or changes must follow their policies and procedures as payment was made directly with them. As the manager mentioned when speaking with you, please contact her directly when you return so she can look after your reservations personally.

We have stayed here several times since we race sailboats out of the Coconut Grove Sailing Club which is across the street. we have tried several other hotels in the vicinity but none are as nice, although the rooms are small. Beds are great and the pool on the 8th floor is nice to wind down in after a hard day on the water. They also have a suna in the spa on the top floor of the hotel. Be sure to request a balcony - we had a room without once before and the difference is feeling is amazing. Easy walking to several excellent places to eat and there are a couple of "hole in the wall" ice cream/yogurt places that are excellent. The restaurant is a bit pricy for breakfast but try the garden place next door and eat under the trees!

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony. Rooms on the 9th floor are very noisy and sometimes have cooking orders

As you mentioned we are the perfect location if you are coming to Coconut Grove for sailing. We are within walking distance of several of the marinas and have rooms with views of them as well. There are several great sailing events throughout the year held here so we encourage you to come back again soon.
