“Miami again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

We stayed in one of the suites in the hotel. Great place to base our business exploits during our stay. Lots of room, calm environment and yet close enough to the heart of the city.

Staff were pleasant and friendly with beach facilities manager being exceptionally helpful.

The Sunday chill out beach party with DJ was great and a lovely way to spend the day.

A calmer way of staying in Miami than South Beach.

We stayed here with another couple for one night before a cruise out of the port of miami. We got a nice room with a decent balcony overlooking brickell! the hotel is nice - the pool is warm and inviting and really large

the room amenities are great and the staff were all friendly and welcoming

there is always cabs waiting to go at the main entrance - we had breakfast the next morning outside - it was a little hectic and not the best service - but the food was excellent as we all ordered al a carte and didn't do the buffet.

We would definately stay there again before a cruise. You are not anywhere near south beach so if you want to go SB you will need to cab it - and traffic can be a litte annoying at times getting out of brickell into SOBE .

We stayed 2 nights & l never wanted to leave! We booked a suite arrived late and they bumped us up to the Presidential suite!!!!! OMG!!!! It was totally amazzzzing!!! All sliding glass doors over looking Key Biscayne n the Rickenbacker Causeway. A sauna, spa room with jacuzzi halogen lights overlooking the spectacular view, 3 bathrooms, hugh kitchen & master with a super duper comfy bed, separate dining room n living room all surround sounded thru out! Totallyyyy outrageous!!!! This room is $7500.00 per night (mini bar included) lol! Prime Minister's, Queen's, Michael Jackson, 'Madonna are just a few who have stayed in this room...oh yeah and me!!!! lol!!!!

Room Tip: Hotel sits on a private Island so every room is spectacular!

What a wonderful retreat. From the moment you check in, its 5 star treatment.
The person that checks you in also escorts you to your room. The rooms are
immaculate. The spa has wonderful treatments. It's not as big as other facilites
I've been to, but its clean and serviced regularly. Very nice amenities.
Turn down service is always a nice touch. Room service was very tasty and
prompt.
My only complaint is how much they charge for valet parking. Two nights $ 72.00
I thought that was quite excessive.
However, the whole experience was so wonderful I overlook the parking.
We can't wait to go back.

“Beautiful setting, extreme customer service levels and two extraordinary five star experiences, The Spa and Azul!

I recommend visiting the 5 star spa, one of only 8 in the U.S. and the only one in the state of Florida. Upon entering, you are greeted with cool towels and sandals and led into your private waiting area or a private suite over looking the bay. Their massage therapists are clearly trained at the highest level and deserve their 5 star ranking.

We also loved dining at dining at “Azul” which exemplifies the Mandarin Oriental’s commitment to five-star dining experiences. Chef Joel Huff and restaurant manager Kimberley Lay have created an unforgettable dining experience from the wine pairings to the delicious cuisine presented with such artistry. You must try their “Goat Cheese” ice cream, one of our favorites. The food presentation was so extraordinary.

To our surprise, we thought we were escaping for a weekend but it felt like we had an amazing month’s vacation in Asia. We were concerned about not being on the ocean but their private beach was a lovely respite in a very quiet environment. The hotel is situated on a small private island just a short bridge away from downtown Miami. Truly a wow experience – and only two and a half hours flight from New York!”

The location, the décor, the views, the facilities, the rooms and the staff and service were all excellent. There are some niggling issues which could spoil your stay so it's worth knowing about. Firstly, as you would expect from a classy hotel, drink and food prices are expensive - that's not one of the niggling issues, but you need to know that.

The worst issue was getting a notice under our door explaining that the pool area had been booked for a private function the following day and would be unavailable to guests from 4pm. I do not think a hotel should exclude guests from facilities which it promotes to guests. We had actually planned to stay in that afternoon and laze around the pool and have dinner there and had to change our plans. There was no compensation offered to guests. Though when I complained the assistant manager rang and asked if I would like some compensation - but I believe if the manager thinks it is appropriate to offer compensation it shouldn't be left to the guest to negotiate what that might be. It would have been easy for the manager to make an appropriate offer.

Other niggles are the cost of parking which from memory is $27 per day, but they don't mention the $6.70 per day 'parking tax' and of course you have to tip the valet every time you drop off and pick up the car. So the cost is more like $40 per day. There are no coffee or tea making facilities in the room. I don't want to call room service or go down stairs to the bar every time I feel like a cuppa! Internet was $15 per day plus taxes. In the last three months I have stayed in 20 hotels in China and the US and only two charged for internet. As wifi is coverage is already provided for all rooms it costs the hotel nothing for you to use the internet. They often say "but it's provided by an outside supplier", but so is electricity and water, but they don't charge you separately for that! It just makes the hotel seem a bit cheap to be charging an add on fee for what is now a basic, expected service.

That said, my wife and I would stay there again, but we'd check that wifi will be included in the room rate, a coffee maker and tea and coffee and sugar is placed in the room and all hotel facilities will be available for our use during our stay. If they declined on any of that we'd go elsewhere. I have already instructed my travel agent to never book me into a hotel where wifi is not available and included in the room rate, or where coffee and tea making facilities are not available.

Room Tip: We loved our view which took in both the city and the bay. We enjoyed the sunset over the city and t...
