We stayed at the Hampton Inn for just one night before departing on the northbound Amtrak. We chose this hotel because it is close to a nice part of Miami and also its proximity to the Tri-Rail.
The hotel ticks all of the boxes - new, clean, full of amenities, good service, good location. The pool was nice but notably cold; much colder than other hotel pools we've used. The room was typical; having a fridge and microwave was a nice addition. The free hot buffet breakfast in the morning was also very nice -- great that they started early in the morning as we needed to leave by 7am, and they had all of the standard fare that you now get in these newer-style hotel breakfast buffets: eggs, bacon, hash browns, waffles, cereals, fruit, etc etc.
Although the Hampton has all of these facilities and features, it does lack in character and atmosphere -- this is a typical chain hotel and it delivers on that expectation. Nevertheless, we as a family stayed at a variety of hotels on our trip across the USA and the Hampton scored lower mainly because it just didn't have anything that allowed it to stand out. It is functional and convenient but not spectacular. Probably better for a business trip than a family holiday.More
