“JW Marriott -- Beautiful, Great Service and Location”
Reviewed December 31, 2005

I stayed 8 nights at the JW Marriott in Miami just before Christmas. I was very pleased with this hotel. It's beautiful. Drake's bar, off the lobby is particularly beautiful -- English gentleman's club decor but very well done. It's also non-smoking so I enjoyed having a cocktail before dinner there. I also loved the pool area. It's not super huge, but very nice and there is poolside bar and food service. It was a great treat to have excellent food and drinks brought to your chaise lounge. The pool is heated so even if the breeze is a little cool, you can have a comfortable swim. My room was large, beautiful, and had lots of extras like an in-room safe, mini-bar, granite counter tops, 42" flat screen TV, up-graded linens, and bath products. One great touch is free internet access via a computer terminal in your room. I loved this - - very easy and convenient to check e-mail and get info off the net. Room service was very good too. I had access to the concierge lounge which had a great breakfast buffet. Overall the service was excellent. The staff are very polite, prompt, and professional. While there is not a lot to do in the immediate area around the hotel, as mentioned in a previous review, this hotel is only about 10 or 15 minutes from South Beach. We took Highway 1 North to the Venetian Causeway (turn right on 15th St I think - - near the Omni?). It's a very easy drive and we never encountered much traffic. One other thing, this hotel is also very close to Key Biscayne and the beaches there - - also a 10 - 15 minute drive and very little traffic. I did not have lunch or dinner in the restaurants so I can't evaluate them. We got a great rate of $169.00 on Marriott. For this price, this hotel was a steal. While it's primarily a business hotel, we thoroughly enjoyed using it as a vacation hotel. I highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed here on October 1, 2005. I chose this hotel because its close to Port of Miami and received good reviews on this board. It’s a nice hotel, the hotel employees are very friendly. The lobby was very opulent and I was a bit embarrassed that I was traveling in jeans and tennis shoes. But everyone treated me courteously and made me feel very welcome. My room had a view overlooking the business districts city skyline with a view of the metromover.

As some have said on this board, its nothing exciting too see in the surrounding area. Lots of construction (building and roads) I walked a few blocks behind the hotel and there is a bay but there were no boats sailing there. I then made my way back up to Brickell Ave to look for some place to eat. I found this relatively inexpensive place called "Pasha’s". It’s a Mediterranean eatery. I order a chicken wrap and Greek salad. It was very good. I spent about $11.

It was rainy so I could not enjoy the interesting steel rooftop pool, so I treated my self to a pedicure in the hotel spa for around $40. They do need to replace the pool lounge chairs. There were noticeably holes and snags in them and it just did not look appealing. For that reason alone, can’t put it up there with Park Hyatt. I would however, recommend JW as a precruise, especially for women traveling alone. I felt safe in the hotel and walking the immediate hotel area.

Just returned from a one-night stay at the JW Marriott on Brickell Avenue in Miami. Had the pleasure of staying on the concierge level and was very impressed by the beautiful food presentations - reminded me of a Ritz Carlton Club Floor. The room was beautiful, in shades of yellow, with a 42" Panasonic LCD TV mounted to the wall. The service all around was outstanding.

The JW Marriott Miami is conveniently located downtown in the heart of the financial district, about 15 to 20 minutes from Miami International Airport and South Beach. Like previous reviews, it is mostly active during the day and a bit subdued at night. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, this is the place to be. Otherwise, a quick taxi ride to South Beach will cost about $25 each way.

Rooms are clean (turned down twice a day), bright (yellow palettes), and with comfortable beds (you can choose the type of pillow), and include modern amenities. The hotel is safe as well since card access is needed not just to open the door to your room but also to in order to activate the elevator system to your floor.

Room service is top-notch, with perceptive staff; they know when they’re needed. The pool is a welcome respite from the day’s activities and the spa service is excellent as well.
