Stayed at the JW in May of 2013 while in Miami for business. This hotel is my favorite in Miami and is my top choice when work takes me to Miami. Service is excellent and location along Brickell is convenient. Rooms are good-sized, bright, clean and welcoming.

This is what you would expect from a JW Marriott! Stunning lobby, great service, spacious and well decorated rooms. We even had a built-in TV display in our bathroom mirror - pretty cool. The breakfast in the club lounge had decent choices, but very limited seating. Great place to stay on a short trip to Miami.

They have a great location near the water and with city views. But, that is where the good ends. The rooms are a very old layout with bathroom doors swinging into the tiny bathroom where one person in the bathroom can't turn around.

Then the very worst food I have had a Marriott. The menu is so overpriced I thought I was in Central America. You pay 5x more for bad food here than just down the street for great food.

I think the management has real issues that only changing a complete management team will fix.

After you pay $200.+ per night for a bad room you also have these add-on's.
Parking $30. per day
Internet $12. per day

Avoid this Marriott!

Room Tip: Avoid this bad hotel

I recently had a chance to stay at both the JW Marriott and the Conrad just down the road for business. Great opportunity to compare and contrast two obvious competitors.
Both higher end offerings of the Marriott and Hilton hotel chains.

In Miami Brickell Avenue business hotel contest- the Conrad wins hands down (see my Conrad review).

First, whilst off loading my luggage the Marriott staff member was insistent on taking my bag claiming there were stairs i had to climb. This was not true. There is an elevator which can take you and heavy luggage up to reception easily. I don't like being misled. Specially if this was to hustle a buck or two on tips. Strike One Against JW.

Second, JW Marriott is clearly an older property compared to the Conrad and felt it. For example while the Conrad has a separate shower area and bath, the JW Marriott only had a in bath tub shower. The Conrad is newer, more modern, brighter- whilst the JW has more wood and a more classic look and feel but to me felt but dated.

Third, at check out the Conrad puts your receipt in a smart Conrad envelope, At first was offered just the print out hard copy. I asked them if they had an envelope. The JW Marriott told me they had run out of envelopes! Did not leave me with an impression of a professionally managed high end hotel. Something I would have expected at a three star establishment not from a JW Marriot which has higher aspirations.

Overall, the JW Marriott is not bad but is showing its age and its staff could use some training.
I will return to the Conrad next time.

Maybe we didn't fit their bill. But this was the only marriot in me and all of us members' terrible stay. The restaurant/bar charged us different charges for same order.... the elevator got us randomly stuck and all it took to make it move was to tell them my floor and point out to them that the elevator was on my floor. something shady... don't recommend unless you look rich i guess...

Room Tip: Do not treat all guests equal.

Green Features: clean and very great smell... that was best part. but much would rather stay at kimpton's epic. brilliant customer care and service.. they treated me unequal because i didm;t look like the other guests....

I stayed here for three nights on a business trip. Upon my arrival the valet was both polite and professional. My car was valeted and remained parked near the entry which was incredibly helpful the several times that I had a change in my schedule and had to leave rather quickly.

Registration staff as well as the gift shop staff were courteous and accommodating. I loved the complimentary water and fruit (marriott properties always get this right!). The room was beautiful, had a decent iron and ironing board, and was nicely appointed (plush towels, fluffy robe, ice bucket). The bed was perfect and I appreciated the pillows.

Though it was small, I liked the pool. The metal bottom is unique and gives the area a nice chic look. My only complaint about this property is its lack of poolside service. I would have loved to order food, a cocktail, water etc but no one ever came around. I stayed over a weekend where it was 80-85 degrees and sunny so there is no excuse for not having at least someone periodically check on guests at the pool. In comparison, the JW Cancun, Las Vegas, and Rousseau have excellent poolside service.

Marketed as slightly more upmarket than your usual Marriott, this hotel has a bit more wood and marble in the lobby but in the rooms it is difficult to make out the difference to a good Quality Inn. In particular the pool area is unattractive with cracked concrete and defacing giant disability seat helpers scattered about, plus four plants. The cafe area is also underwhelming, certainly not at the level the hotel claims to be. Rooms have a dated atmosphere.
