“Housekeeping needs improvement”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

We were recently in Miami for a family wedding at the Mayfair and I have to be honest, we were very worried. My wife and I had gone onto Trip Advisor and had read some of the horrible reviews of the Mayfair. We were so concerned that we considered changing our reservation to a different hotel in the same area. Due to the fact that the bride and groom had booked out a block of rooms for the wedding and would have been charged for the rooms if we canceled, we decided to suck it up and risk a bad hotel experience. What can I say, family comes first.

We arrived at the hotel at about 11pm at night and were greeted by a very friendly and courteous staff. Our room was in order and they couldn't do enough to help us get settled in. Upon opening the door to our room, I was expecting to see dirty sheets, left over food, a filthy floor, or mold growing up the wall of the bathroom. What we actually got was a nice room that was clean and ready for guest. The floors were clean and there were no mold monsters in the bathroom.

Overall, I would say that I like the hotel. With the exception of housekeeping, everyone at the hotel was very friendly, prompt with request, and eager to help. Maybe they recently went through some customer service training or something but I can honestly say that no one was rude. The bartender at the rooftop bar (Ernesto) was very friendly and talkative and the waiter in the restaurant (Pedro) went out of his way to make sure that our breakfast was to our satisfaction.

Here is where the hotel falls down a star. Housekeeping is a joke. Yes, the room was clean upon arrival and they did replace towels and make the bed daily but I think that that is all that they did. One day my daughter ate a snack at the table in the room. The next day, after housekeeping had cleaned the room, I noticed that there were still crumbs on the table and in the chair. Also, I am certain that they didn't sweep or mop the floor the whole time we were there. By the end of the week the floor was feeling like it needed a good cleaning. We had four people in the room and for some reason they would only leave three towels each day. One day we actually had to call the front desk and ask for our room to be cleaned because it was 7:30 at night and no one had cleaned the room yet.

The hotel is in a great location and there are lots of shopping and restaurants near by. If they could get housekeeping to improve I would easily give the hotel 5 stars.

Dear itchy0ne,

Thank for taking the time to share with us about your recent stay in our property and for the very detail feedback that you have provided.
Our housekeeping team is going under a training period that we expect will solve all of the small issues that could turn into very big ones and we are confident that our director of housekeeping will be able to fix most of the issues that you have brought up.
We hope to have you back in our property in the near future and I am certain that during your next visit you will be able to notice the progress made.

Warm regards,

This was my first time in Miami. The location is perfect. Close to good restaurants, movies and bars. The parking price was pricey but convienient since we were able to go in and out throughout the day. Room was clean, bed very comfortable. The front desk was very helpful. Have to say Desmond who works at the front desk was very informative, friendly, suggested places to go to enjoy our time in Miami. Thanks Desmond. :)

The upstairs pool and bar is beautiful.

I will definitely return to this hotel.

Excellent staff, great customer service, room very clean. I had I great time. The spa was also a great experience. Love the room jacuzzi. Breakfast was delicious, I recommend the blueberry pancakes. The valet was very nice and helpful at all times. One of the managers Mr. Arango was very helpful and concerned about our experience.

You can't beat the location of this hotel. The rooms were ok. The hot tub was extra charge. The valet parking was expensive. The hotel needs alittle painting and they need to fix the elevator. We felt like we were going to get stuck . It was going soooo slow and noisy. The rooms are stock with items but veryyyy expensive. we ordered room service it was overpriced and the food was alright. This was an Ok stay.

Dear JaninRom,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent visit to our property and I could not agree more about our location, there are only a hand full of hotels that could claim such a prime location and we are truly proud to be one of those hotels.
I would like to share that our elevators will be renovated by the end of the summer and our engineering department works in maintaining all of our walls and hallways painted and well taken care of.
We could not thank you enough for your feedback which we will put into used with all the proper departments and we hope to see you back in our property in the near future.

Found this hotel on priceline. I was desperate to find a place to stay during memorial day weekend. I was lucky to find this lovely hotel in coconut grove, miami. A nice area with good restaurants and movie theatres within walking distance and an easy walk to the bay. Clean rooms with beautifully tiled bathrooms! The only down side was that parking was $38/ day. There were parking lots across the street that I used that was much cheaper. Angela at the front desk was very friendly as was the rest of the staff.

Dear Lynn L,

Thank you for taking the time to share with us about your recent stay in our property and we are very proud to read that you loved our property.
One thing I'd like to point out is that our valet is $28 and not $38 and if you paid that amount please do not hesitate in contacting me and it'll be my pleasure to refund you the difference.
Once again thank you for your kind words and we sincerely hope to have you back in our property really soon.

You can't beat the location of this hotel, right in the middle of Coconut Grove. The price isn't too bad either, so overall it wasn't a bad experience. However, the rooms aren't particularly great. The hot tub, although nice, costs $30 to fill up and parking is $28/day (not pro-rated). Also, the elevators are very slow. The bathroom isn't bad, but the shower is built without a door, which is a little weird, and there's only one outlet that's high up on the ceiling (but the coffee maker is in there, so you would have to move it into a different room to use it). There's a very small refrigerator, but there's really not any room for anything else since it's stocked with all the overpriced drinks. The bed was nice and it's decorated well, which helps when you want to relax. Because of it's location and nice decor, this hotel isn't bad, but if I were to go back I would want to try somewhere else.

Dear Chase C,

We are truly happy to read that you were able to enjoy your time in the Coconut Grove area and we would like to thank you for the feedback that you provided.
Our property provides many amenities that aren't common in other hotels, such as the Japanese hot tubs and even thought it is in the rooms there's still a fee due to the fact that they need to be prepare by the staff and also the cleaning required once the guest is done using it. In relation to the valet parking, our rates are comparable with the other properties in the area, however there are other options for guest to park near the hotel.
Once again we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience in our property and we sincerely hope to have the opportunity to have you back in our property in the near future.

By being first time visitors to Miami, it was hard to decide where to stay. Finally, our eyes caught Mayfair. Located in nice Coconut Grove, pleasant neighborhood for walking and exploring, hotel by itself featured some charm and beauty. Everything in hotel made in style, very interesting layout of the rooms. Room was decent size with patio overlooking flowering garden on lower level. Hidden treasure! Although, has some wear on. When we walked in the room only in socks - it showed that floor needed deep cleaning! Check in and check out went really quick and smooth, all the questions been answered by stuff. We were disappointed when found out that pool on the roof was closed before hours - first day person in the reception told us that sometimes when it is quiet like this day (on the Memorial Day!) they close earlier, next day we got there little before 8 Pm and been politely asked to leave at 8:15pm although it said that pool is open until 11pm . We didn't see a lot of activities in the hotel beside aircrews of French airlines, so we presumed its not so busy (maybe because of pricing?). Beside the regular rates, there are a lot of fees that builded up to 137$ for two nights. Haven't use valet parking because by mistake we parked at the Mayfair garage that is not related to the hotel when just arrived, than we found out that it is cheaper to park there than valet( 13$ vs 28$). Have not use restaurant in the hotel just because we had nice dinner in the neighborhood. Hotel is close to marina, there is no beach if you are for sun and water in Miami. Overall, positive memories!
