We were recently in Miami for a family wedding at the Mayfair and I have to be honest, we were very worried. My wife and I had gone onto Trip Advisor and had read some of the horrible reviews of the Mayfair. We were so concerned that we considered changing our reservation to a different hotel in the same area. Due to the fact that the bride and groom had booked out a block of rooms for the wedding and would have been charged for the rooms if we canceled, we decided to suck it up and risk a bad hotel experience. What can I say, family comes first.
We arrived at the hotel at about 11pm at night and were greeted by a very friendly and courteous staff. Our room was in order and they couldn't do enough to help us get settled in. Upon opening the door to our room, I was expecting to see dirty sheets, left over food, a filthy floor, or mold growing up the wall of the bathroom. What we actually got was a nice room that was clean and ready for guest. The floors were clean and there were no mold monsters in the bathroom.
Overall, I would say that I like the hotel. With the exception of housekeeping, everyone at the hotel was very friendly, prompt with request, and eager to help. Maybe they recently went through some customer service training or something but I can honestly say that no one was rude. The bartender at the rooftop bar (Ernesto) was very friendly and talkative and the waiter in the restaurant (Pedro) went out of his way to make sure that our breakfast was to our satisfaction.
Here is where the hotel falls down a star. Housekeeping is a joke. Yes, the room was clean upon arrival and they did replace towels and make the bed daily but I think that that is all that they did. One day my daughter ate a snack at the table in the room. The next day, after housekeeping had cleaned the room, I noticed that there were still crumbs on the table and in the chair. Also, I am certain that they didn't sweep or mop the floor the whole time we were there. By the end of the week the floor was feeling like it needed a good cleaning. We had four people in the room and for some reason they would only leave three towels each day. One day we actually had to call the front desk and ask for our room to be cleaned because it was 7:30 at night and no one had cleaned the room yet.
The hotel is in a great location and there are lots of shopping and restaurants near by. If they could get housekeeping to improve I would easily give the hotel 5 stars.
