This property officially opened on Feb. 17th and I checked in on Feb. 18th. The staff leaves a lot to be desired. Some of them informed me that it was their first job working in hospitality and it showed. The hotel is located on a street that you would never imagine having a hotel. The property is beautiful, however, there we a lot of kinks that they needed to iron out. The pool wasn't open, the TV in the gym wasn't working, their ice machine was working, the towels had never been washed so they left a lot of lint on your skin. The front office supervisor was very helpful and nice, however, the staff was very "wet behind the ears" when it came to hospitality. Great location, close to the airport. Continental breakfast was GREAT. Passion fruit juice was to die for. I may give this property another chance to see if they have worked the kinks out after it has been up and running for a while. Only two floors, the 4th and 5th were opened. Housekeepers were very nice.

Room Tip: All rooms come with a full kitchen.

I had two stays booked at this hotel via the SPG website. In re-organising the first stay the hotel's communication and re-booking at the Sheraton Miami Airport was woefully inadequate. I recognise that the re-booking for the second stay is was a little better. I'm a regular Starwood customer and expected far better however suffice it to say that this experience of complete disorganisation has strained this loyalty.

I know you are saying how can I post a review when the property hasn't even had its grand opening. Well, hear my story and you be the judge. My wife and I had plans to visit Miami for a weekend in early February 2012. So we looked through the SPG.com site and found a great deal for point and cash deal at the new Elements Miami airport. So in late December, i booked my reservation for a 3 day stay in Feb...and got an automated email from SPG confirming my booking. The Elements Miami website a that time said that they were under constructions and planned a grand openning for early Jan 2012. I even saw some props about the hotel in USAtoday.com and/or cnn.com and was really looking forward to experiencing my first Westin Element experience. I went back to their website in mid January and noticed that they pushed their openning back to late January. 2 days ago, basically 2 weeks before the upcoming trip, I go to the elements website and noticed that the openning was pushed back again to Feb 9th. So feeling a discomfort at seeing the continuous slippage in the openning date, i decided to send a short, proactive email to spg.com and to the elements hotel to confirm that my reservation was ok as i had not received any notice to this point and when i checked my account at SPG.com, my reservation looked to be safe as planned. SPG was the first to reply back to my inquiry saying that they will not take first reservation until March 1st and that my reservation has been cancelled. What the heck? What if i didn't email them and just went to the hotel as originally planned? I would have been out of luck to say the least and would have had to pay an arm/leg to find a room after landing. I ask why wasn't i sent any emails that that SPG forceably cancelled my reservation. Basic answer is that they did...which is a lie because I did not receive any notice via phone, email, or were my SPG points returned to my SPG account until after my initial inquiry. How can they do this? So frantically, i searched the various hotel/travel website, spend another 3 or so hours and book a $500 prepaid room stay. I'm sooooo disappointed with the lack of professional courtesy. And here's the slap in the face moment, SPG says they will give me 2,000 points for my trouble. Like that will make up for this...are you serious? A day/two later, i get an email from the elements miami hotel rep saying they'll honor my original reservation. What? Is the property taking reservation before March 1st or Not? Does not sound like Starwood and the Elements Miami are even on the same page. I tell them unfortunately, i cannot because of my prepaid reservation at another hotel. And the same, sweep the trouble under the carpet moment, they want to give me 2,000 spg points for my trouble. PLEASE~~~~ ! What a piece of work Elements & Starwood. You guys really need to do a better job of customer service. SPG Gold...i guess that really doesn't mean anything...since i'm not SPG plat. So disappointed. So unprofessional.
