We stayed on Dec 28th before a cruise. We used the airport shuttle to the hotel. We had a short wait, but then were driven straight to the hotel. It is one of several Marriott properties located next to each other. We did not have to wait to check-in, and were given a PureAir room. Everything was clean, and the room was quite comfortable. There were 4 of us in the room, our teenagers shared the pull-out couch bed in the living area, and we had the King. We did have quite a wait to get extra blankets/sheets for the pull-out, but they had told us that was one of the largest check-in days they have had. We asked for a late check-out, and they granted our request. We used a cab service 2x, and they called for it each time.
THe rooms have the full-kitchen, small table, couch, chair, TV that shares between bed/couch and nice bathroom area. The vanity/sink/closet are right outside the toilet/shower area.
They do have a shuttle service for the cruise ships, but it is $15/person. With our family of 4, it was cheaper to do the cab. The cab service was quick and lets you out right at the luggage area of the port.
I would recommend this hotel for business, personal or the quick overnight pre/post cruise.

We stayed here one night prior to cruise, and one night post cruise. Huge difference in our experiences one week apart.
Excellent experience: Jan 11, 2013. Pleasant reception and greeting, Acknowledged appreciation to us for being Marriott members. Upgraded to a "pure" air room. Assigned room met our additional request (on line booking) of extra pillows & near elevators. Pleasant room floor plan as well. Reception staff also offered to note on our next reservation that we would be arriving early (post cruise) so they could have a room available for us. Of possible significance (?) is that I did pay for this reservation on my Marriott VISA.
The disappointing experience: Jan 19, 2013. We arrived at hotel about 11AM. Short line for check-in but were informed by reception desk staff that there would be 15-20 min wait. No smile or glad to have you here type greeting. Fine, no problem. We can wait a bit. In actuality, our wait for a room assignment was over 2 hours despite my rechecking 3 times during that period to make sure she had not forgotten about us. Several people that arrived after us had been given room assignments.Of possible significance (???) this reservation was booked online using my Marriott POINTS. Room was NOT what we had reserved: was farthest from elevators. Floor plan poor as bathroom toilet faced living room section and only way to close door was to squeeze in on with side of the toilet as door barely cleared the toilet. Very disappointing experience. Is this the way Marriott treats their "valued" customers if they use earned points?
Airport shuttle was efficient and pleasant. Nice breakfast with flavorful choices. Best sausage gravy & biscuits we ever had at hotel buffet! Nice lobby and public areas. Would have rated much higher if had not been for our disappointing 2nd stay.

Room Tip: Don't let them assign you rom 3502 on 5th floor. Awful floor plan....see bathroom issues (see 2...

Good Day,

Thank you for choosing the Residence Inn Miami Airport South.
We regret that you did not fully enjoy one of your stays.

We strive to provide all of our guests with the earliest check in possible. However, this is not always feasible. I apologize that you had to wait for your room to be ready while having other guests check in before you. I will revise this issue with my desk agents to ensure that future guests do not encounter the same issue.

Additionally, I apologize that the level of service seemed lessened on your points stay.
This is not the case as we want all of our guests to feel appreciated and enjoy their stay; regardless of their booking method.

We do hope that you revisit us on your next trip to Miami.

Sincerely,
Shalaka McFarlane

I enjoyed my stay here. They had everything we needed in the kitchen AND they provided a great breakfast and diner(evening social). The room was very clean and well tended by the staff. The facilities were all clean, laundry room, gym area, pool, etc. Very accomodating front desk staff as well.

Room Tip: Get to the lobby early to eat! Or eat poolside.

We stayed one night at this Marriott during a week long vacation in South FL. The stay here actually wasn't planned, but we liked Miami so much, we decided to extend our stay by one night. Unfortunately, since that night happened to be the Saturday right before New Year's, the hotel prices were just outrageous. Luckily, we found this Marriott, and perhaps because it wasn't in South Beach, the rates were much more reasonable.

The first thing we noticed was that the hotel was in direct path of the planes landing at the airport which is in very close proximity to the hotel. However, our fears were quickly calmed when we could barely hear the planes once we were up in our room. We had a very good night's rest and didn't have any problems with any noise, airplanes or otherwise. The suite itself was very nice and spacious - good kitchen, well equipped with everything you'd want if you were staying/cooking there. A nice living space, separated from the bedroom, and a good size counter space by the sink, that was separated from the shower/toilet. Overall we were really pleased with the hotel, and would definitely recommend it.

The only thing that caught us slightly off guard was the laundry prices. It cost $2 to wash and another $2 to dry clothes. Even on South Beach, it was cheaper than that. Not sure why it's so pricey, considering that neither the washers nor dryers are new/high quality.

We recently stayed overnight at this hotel the night before we left for our cruise. The hotel provided a free shuttle from the Airport (which was quick and easy to use). The lobby was nice and the rooms were spacious.

My teen children and I ate breakfast the next morning and it was a good selection of choices.

We left twice in a cab, and the front desk called and had one at the front door before we could make it from our room to the front door.

Everyone was plesant and nice. I would recommend this hotel as a nice stay over before a cruise or an extended vacation due to its proximity to the airport.

Miami is a gateway for both cruises and Florida attractions so a stop-over hotel that can rest you is vital.

This hotel is within 10 minutes of the airport, has a free shuttle tht runs every 15 minutes and is fullu sound proofed. Coupled with three on-site restaurants in the Marriott complex plus a free hot breakfast this is all you will ever need.

Fantastic! The one drwback is no room safe so one has to carry all the travel documentation around - OK so nothing is ever perfect!

Room Tip: They are all tripple glazed so a good rest is assured.

We eventually arrived at the hotel after driving around for well over an hour looking for it and getting stuck in horrendous traffic. It is very difficult to see from the highway and if you are approaching from the direction of the car rental depot, accessible only after a U-Turn into a small arched entrance which is difficult to spot. We were in the worse mood!

Luckily we were greeted by Robert who was on duty when we arrived. He was so friendly and helpful and checked us in quickly, giving us an upgrade to an allergy friendly room. He made us feel so welcome we forgot about the frustrations of the previous hours. He deserves a big thankyou.

The room was excellent. free internet, smoke free. The air purifier in the corner of the room was obviously doing it's job as the room smelled fresh and clean. The bed was extremly comfortable with much better quality sheets than most hotels of this standard. The bathroom and vanity area was super clean with plenty of soft white towels. The kitchen was well stocked with a microwave, stove top, plates, cuttlery, glasses and pans if you wanted to prepare your own food. If not, you can visit Champions Bar at the Courtyard next door, the Cane Fire Grille or Stabucks all on the Marriott Campus.

The free Breakfast was very good with a selection of cold items - cereals, yoghurt, bread, pastries, muffins and fruit along with hot items - eggs, potatoes, ham and sausage. The service was good and the food was quickly replenished.

We enjoyed the allergy friendly room and really noticed the difference having the air purifier in the room. We would probably pay the extra $20 on the rate to secure one of these rooms if we stayed again. We sadly only had the one night as we were flying out of Miami that day, but we would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a longer stay. We would return if we were in the Miami area now that we know exactly how to find this 'hidden gem'

Tip for finding the hotel - We discovered we were not alone when we couldn't find the hotel (several of the staff admitted they had the same problem when they first worked there!). It helped to find that NW 42nd Street is N Le Jeune Road. The hotel is difficult to see from the road so when on N Le Jeune, aim for the Fairfield Inn which is easy to see and almost next to the arched entrance to the Marriott Campus. Go through the barriers into the Marriott Campus and the Residence is at the back of the complex.

Room Tip: This is a smoke free hotel but for extra cleanliness choose an allergy friendly room for an extra $2...
