“Only worth it if you get to go inside”

Barnacle State Historic Site
Ranked #63 of 367 things to do in Miami
Attraction details
Reviewed April 29, 2013

I had decided to visit the Barnacle State Historic Site since it was near my hotel. The walk up to the house was nice. There were interpretive signs along the hammock, which ended up being the only thing I got to check out. There is a $2 entrance fee that you pay along the way by putting the money in an envelope inside a big yellow post. At no point until you reach the house are you informed that you have to be on a tour to go inside. The tour costs more and only offered a few times a day.

Unless you know what time the tour is, expect to waste a day if you really are intent to see this site. It would've been nice to learn about some history, but they don't seem to care to share it with you.

We were looking for South Beach and we came up on this hidden treasure. For $2 you get a walk through a lovely wooded trail with sign markers giving information along the way. At the end of the walk is the house that goes with the park. Check this out while in Miami.

It was well worth the visit, a refreshing break from the city. A lot of history. For only $2, you get a glance into Miami history.

In the heart of Coconut Grove and if you have dinner reservations, it's easy to come a little early and walk through it. For all the hectic, business of Miami area, it is a nice way just to relax a little and enjoy. Also there is the history surrounding it

Nice place to relax, nothing much to see, older house and pretty view of the ocean. Located in Coconut Grove, it was OK.
