Owner description: Built in 1916 as a winter retreat, this lavish villa is a tribute to the Italian Renaissance. The museum contains much of the original furnishings and artwork, and is surrounded by lush, formal gardens.

This spectacular dream home built by businessman James Deering, (1859-1925) of International Harvester, is a mansion in a secluded tropical area, with patio steps in back leading directly onto beautiful Biscayne Bay. The house is filled with treasures from his many European trips and is designed to reflect a variety of periods and styles. The expansive gardens are a mix of Italian and French with plants that thrive in the subtropical climate, statues, and fountains. In 1994 it was designated a National Historic Landmark and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. Extraordinarily colorful beauty in a serene setting! This should be a must-see for anyone who loves history and who travels to the Miami area. Open daily 9:30-4:30 except Tuesdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

I am so glad i finally paid a visit to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. It was only $10 to get in for students. Definitely pay the 5 extra bucks to get the guided tour! Beautiful place to take pictures. My only wish is for them to allow you take pictures inside! Bathrooms were very clean and quite beautiful too!

Beautiful with hidden and not so hidden gems, worth taking a tour otherwise you will miss out on some of the interesting insights and historically significant stories affiliated with the property. The family of the original owner was unable to perform the upkeep on this magnificent property and the deterioration is evident. While the county took over the ownership and maintenance running tours, and the venue is used as a great place for an event or party, much money needs to be donated to bring the place back to its original grandeur. With all that said, Vizcaya is not to be missed. The location is easy from either Miami or Key Biscayne.

I'm local and I always bring friends or family visiting the Miami area. It is a great place with wonderful views of the ocean. It is amazing to learn that at first this place was the winter residence of James Deering (talk about money back in the 1900's).

A nice place for a relax walk, take a lot of pictures, walk on the beautiful gardens, see the big house inside and go back to history.

Visited viscaya house and gardens when staying down in lauderdale , really enjoyed it, what an amazing place , you wouldn't think it is situated in a busy city of Miami, the tour offers a self guided experience or a tour guide , we opted for the self service experience , it was thoroughly enjoyable , what a house it is / was , the gardens are absolutely amazing, but for me was the intriguing waterfront where the boats of the day would dock or where guest would arrive for their grande evenings , we also decided to enjou lunch out on the deck , food was reasonable and tasty , offering a nice variety for all , the self guide was easy to listen to and operate , over all my experience was excellent , well done to all involved on keeping such a fantastic establishment in such a great order
