Not our first visit to this Chesecake Factory while shopping at Dadeland Mall. We decided to get a quick bite at he bar before driving home. Though this was a Saturday, only 4 others were seated at the bar and 80% of the restaurant was empty.
The bartender greeted us and took our order of "small bites." Another server brought out bread. The bartender ignored the group of 3 at the other end of the bar while he prepared glasses of mint leaves in anticipation of making mojitos. Our ahi tartare and pear and goat cheese flat bread arrived, brought by another server. My boyfriend had long since finished his beer. The bartender was busy talking about how he needed a vacation with a bar back, while showing him hotels in some guidebook! Servers lined up with drink orders and the bartender stopped his vacation planning to get their drinks. He prepared three shots for the group at the other end of the bar and let those shots sit while he again chatted with the bar back! After minimally 5 minutes, he served the shots.
A man he knew sat down at the bar and he instantly brought him an ice tea and asked if he was having his "usual." There was a solo guest he had been serving mimosa after mimosa to. Her entree arrived and he asked if she needed anything else. After she had a couple bites, he asked if everything was good. In 15 minutes of sitting with an empty glass, he never asked if my boyfriend would like a water or another beer. He never once asked how our food was. He never asked if we wanted desert or anything else. And though he was working on more mint leaves right in front of us, we had to get his attention to take our payment and make change.
Upon exiting the restaurant, we noted the new seating area open to the mall. Four servers were huddled together there laughing and talking. Only one table had 4 guests in this area. It was obvious these servers were hiding from work. It is apparent that management of this Cheesecake Factory is absent from day to day operations.
For 10 years we would enjoy an occasional lunch here. Now, it is doubtful we will return.
