“Great but with imperfections”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

We stayed at the Epic in Miami for 2 weeks in May 2014. Obviously staying there for 2 weeks we saw how the place operates and could see all sides and experienced some inconsistencies.

It was a return visit and it did not disappoint. The staff are great and several offer an incredible service to the guests. However they don't all offer the same level. Not always bad, just not as good as those that offer brilliant.

These are highlighted in all areas. Around the pool Oscar and Juan are excellent, attentive and meticulous. When they took their rest days the guys that came in were below par and did very little to assist guests.

At breakfast most staff were fabulous, others you practically had to chase round the room to get a cup of coffee.

House keeping service was always ok but some days you got water, some you didnt. Just niggly but when others offer perfection then the little things show up after a while.

That said if something was ever wrong it was put right very quickly.

The hotel caters mostly for business and short break leisure travellers. The clientele were all well behaved, all hip and a mix of nationalities. Kids are made extremely welcome but there isnt much for them to do. We were presented with lovely gifts for them on arrival and these were essential in occupying them. We did feel a bit self conscious around the pool deck about having kids playing in the pool in an adult environment. There is a wine hour every evening in the lobby which is lovely (also great for people watching) but it offers children only a glass of water. This was fine but be aware this not an occasion for the whole family.

I recommend the corner suites but if you get the choice go for the views down brickell rather than facing north. Our room was great but faced onto the pool deck at the opposite hotel (marriot) and they were quite noisy with evening functions.

We hired a car and had to use the expensive valet parking ($37/night). usually very good but on one occasion we had a 30 minute wait for our car.

Food was always of a high standard but breakfast can hang around so ask for fresh and they will make for you pretty quickly.

The surrounding area has lots of good restaurants - Toro Toro at the intercontinental a must along with beer n burgers in brickell village. Avoid Pizzarium and Pericones. Both sucked. Very close to shops for whatever you need but dont stray too far north after dark, it gets rough very quickly.

Would like to give a shout out to the concierge service who sorted Heat tickets for us. Miami Heat play their games about 10-15 minutes walk along the road. Safe to walk.

Lastly - THE POOL - The pool was freezzzinnng. It was impossible for anyone to get in. The kids tried valiantly but we dont think we saw an adult spend more than 2 mins the water the whole of our stay. We asked several times for it to be heated, we got several different answers as to why it was cold. Just dont expect to get in the water if you stay here.

To summarise the Epic is genuinely a brilliant hotel in an excellent location with many super touches and feeling of hospitality. There are few inconsistencies in staff training which can frustrate and the pool needs urgent attention.

Room Tip: Corner suites looking down brickell avenue offer the very best views

Thanks so much for taking the time to provide us with some great feedback about your two week stay. I am glad that much of our staff provided brilliant service, especially Oscar and Juan at the pool! They truly know the definition of hospitality. It also seems like you had the chance to enjoy our nightly wine hour and welcome bags for the kids.

Over the entirety of your stay, it sounds like you experienced some service that was not flawless. I appreciate your honest feedback and look forward to correcting this on property. It’s great to hear that even with a few hiccups, you still felt comforted by our “super touches and feeling of hospitality.”

We can’t wait to provide the perfect experience on your next stay!

I've spent the new years eve at the Epic and it was great. The hotel is amazing and service is flawless at the club level. Good drinks and hors d'oeuvres all day long. Lucia couldn't make it better to serve us with her exceptional attention at the club. The Zuma restaurant is the best Japanese in Miami.

We stayed in Epic hotel in Room 2708 from February 24 to February 27 2014. This is our third return in a row. The hotel itself is not perfect, for example it’s odd to have a large HD TV in the room with standard definition signal. The main reason that we are coming back is a service and personnel that works there. Last year Alejandra was amazing, this year above and beyond went Emily Asbate, Stephany (hostess?), and Carlos (doorman?). Emily was extremely accommodating in our early check in request. Stephany took her time to talk to us, ensuring we are comfortable, making helpful suggestions on what to do in the area. Carlos, always with a big smile, was helping people with luggage, clearing wine glasses during wine hour without any attitude hints “this is not my job”. All these people made our stay extra special. Because of people like that we will be returning to Epic next year.
Thank you again for warm smiles and friendly personable service. Your staff truly cares about all our travel needs making our visit comfortable and memorable.

My wife and I stayed here On a friday night during Memorial day weekend. The hotel looks amazing from the outside. As we approached the main entrance we both started to feel we choose the hotel since it looked a little to "ritzy" and pretentious...we were wrong. Yes, the hotels restaurant (area 31) draws out the elite from south beach, however that does not change how any staff member treats its guests. There were times we walked in feeling poor compared to who was walking in next to us, but the hotel welcomes everyone.
The building - awesome
The location - awesome
The rooms - awesome
EVERY staff member we met - awesome
The View - the best

Room Tip: if you can afford it, go for the bay view

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights pre cruise and 2 nights post cruise in April and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is luxurious, clean, airy and the staff are simply top notch in their care and attention to customers. Special thanks to all staff at reception, all the "doormen" and Gene on the Concierge Desk who went above and beyond the call of duty. Juan at the pool, who made you feel special and took the time to "get to know you". Well done all, you are a credit to the EPIC!!

The 5pm Courtesy Happy Hour was a nice touch, giving reality to "It's 5 o'clock somewhere".

The only downside of the stay was when we arrived back home to the UK, I noticed an amount had been charged to my credit card. After a couple of emails, questioning the amount, the matter was resolved. It was what we call in the UK, mini bar charges, which was never used.

Room Tip: Rooms 2003 and 2103 have beautiful views.

We arrived at the Epic Hotel in our rental Ford Focus, treated the same as the driver of the $300,000 car in front of us. Impressive! Helpful, friendly and pleasant employees! We will stay again! Greeted each an every time we walked into or out of the building. Great location to experience Miami

Room Tip: higher floor on opposite side of building from bar

We chose to overnight at the Epic hotel between two weeks in Bonaire and two weeks in the Turks and Caicos. Unfortunately, we arrived under trying circumstances, including being robbed of everything in Bonaire and arriving at the front desk without money or credit cards and looking like bedraggled tourists. We had arranged to have our credit card Fed Ex'd to the hotel, which the staff had readily available, but it required standing at the front desk and monopolizing their phone as we went through the process of getting it activated....for close to an hour...on a Friday night. Not only was the staff patient and kind, they didn't bat an eye at our scruffy appearance in a sea of well-coifed patrons. In fact, the manager sent us a lovely fruit and cheese plate with a note of comfort that brought me to tears. Being treated so well, especially considering our appearance and the lengthy personal process at the front desk, is a huge testament to how the Epic cares for their guests. In addition, our room was amazing and the view was spectacular. We were also very pleased to be provided information and directions as to where to purchase watches, iPads, and other items in the few hours we had that evening, saving us from wandering aimlessly. I know this is not a typical hotel experience but I think it reflects the true nature of the property and what happens under less than ideal circumstances. We are planning to spend a few days in Miami at the Epic specifically because we want to experience all the hotel and area has to offer.

Room Tip: There was quite a bar scene below where our room was located. The techno music was thumping and we c...
