Owner description: Zoo Miami (also known as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida, and the only sub-tropical zoo in the continental United States. The unique climate in South Florida allows us to keep a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa, representing a broad mix of species that is unlike any other zoo in the country. Zoo Miami today occupies almost 750 acres, and is home to more than 3,000 animals representing over 500 different species. Of this population, more than 40 species are classified as endangered. The zoo also houses more than 1,000 species of trees, palms and other plants, and over 100 special exhibits showcasing a broad number of species and scientific topics. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) which means we have passed a rigorous application and inspection process and meet or exceed the AZA's standards for animal health and welfare, fundraising, zoo staffing, and involvement in global conservation efforts. Zoo Miami is proud to be an active leader in many global wildlife and environmental conservation initiatives, and we are currently involved in over 36 projects taking place on six continents.

“Great day out”
Reviewed July 8, 2014

Spent a day at Miami Zoo with my 18 year old daughter. We travelled round on the Monorail first to see what was there and then walked all around (stopping for lunch and to shelter from the rain in the middle!). Lots to see. My particular favourite was feeding the giraffes. Food good. Little tip: you can buy a souvenir cup for just under $5 and it can be refilled at any refreshment place at the zoo for $1 a time. Very useful to us as it was baking hot. Would highly recommend the zoo to everyone - admittance price very reasonable, lots of animals to see, monorail good fun, family bikes to hire, water fun for the kids... What more do you need? Go visit soon!

“Fun zoo. Feed the rhino”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

Nice zoo, well laid out, lots of misters to combat the heat. The kids enjoyed the aviary and feeding the rhino.

“Large Zoo! Favorite so far”
Reviewed July 5, 2014

The zoo is enormous. There is a multitude of animals to observe. There is a kids petting zoo and a small water park located with in. I'd recommend getting the family bikes to get around due to the size. There are boat rentals and other family oreinted activities. There are plenty of eating areas, the zoo even makes there own beer.

“Great zoo, must visit”
Reviewed July 4, 2014

We enjoyed almost a whole day of roaming around in the zoo. We also made an effort to go for some of the "meet the keeper" events, which were ace, getting to talk to the keepers and getting some nice and great info about the animals.

Surprising enough it seemed we were always the only ones making an effort of visiting these on that day, which gave us some good time with the keepers and some unique insights of the animals.

The zoo itself is huge, and we were baking away all day in the sun. So seeing that there was a waterpark for kids int he middle allowed for a good cooling off!
