Owner description: Zoo Miami (also known as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida, and the only sub-tropical zoo in the continental United States. The unique climate in South Florida allows us to keep a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa, representing a broad mix of species that is unlike any other zoo in the country. Zoo Miami today occupies almost 750 acres, and is home to more than 3,000 animals representing over 500 different species. Of this population, more than 40 species are classified as endangered. The zoo also houses more than 1,000 species of trees, palms and other plants, and over 100 special exhibits showcasing a broad number of species and scientific topics. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) which means we have passed a rigorous application and inspection process and meet or exceed the AZA's standards for animal health and welfare, fundraising, zoo staffing, and involvement in global conservation efforts. Zoo Miami is proud to be an active leader in many global wildlife and environmental conservation initiatives, and we are currently involved in over 36 projects taking place on six continents.

“Nice clean little Zoo at a good price”

I spent about three hours wondering about the Zoo and enjoyed the villages: Atlantic Forest, Flooded Forest, and Clouded forest. It small in comparison to the San Diego Zoo, but much easier on the feet. The have 2 and 4 person peddle carts, so if you are in group grab one and give your feet a rest. Cool Zoo. Winter is the low time so some things were closed and the monorail and bus tour did not run.

Near by is the Gold Coast RR Museum, which highligts the President rail car use FDR, Truman and Eisenhower. You can see it and the Zoo on the same day

“pleasant for a family day out”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

It is absolutely worth to visit Miami Zoo. The animals in there own habitat in a nice area, with a lot of flowers. we just enjoyed it very much. Moreover, by bringing so many different kind of animals together it is a perfec teaching ground for the children, apart from the geagraphical value.
A negative point is the "burgers" place. Dirty, unpleasant, and very bad value for money. I syggest one leaves the Zoo by the time one like a bite to eat and find a good place on the way back to Miami.

“LOVE IT!”
Reviewed January 24, 2014

This was an awesome place! It's so big with so many things to see, that we didn't even get to see all of it! We spent hours here! We used a Groupon, so it was cheaper, but normal prices are pretty reasonable. If you're thinking about Zoo Miami or Lion Country Safari, pick Zoo Miami all the way! There is also feedings where you can actually see the animals right next to you. They also have a water park... bring the swimsuits! Great place

“Great for a family day out”
Reviewed January 21, 2014

We have gone often to the zoo. Best to go first thing in the morning (especially in summer) and rent a cycle. Animals seem more active early before the afternoon sun peaks, and its less crowed. My kids (2 & 4) really really enjoying feeding the giraffes. With young kids, we go early, have lunch there, and then start heading home before it gets too hot and the kids take their nap in the car on the drive home.

“LOVED The Zoo”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

We spent hours walking around the zoo and seeing all the animals. It is a lot of walking and next time we will for sure, rent a bike. The exhibits were great, the animals were wonderful, you can do feedings...and it is so reasonable priced. We will definitely bring out of town company here!
