Owner description: Zoo Miami (also known as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida, and the only sub-tropical zoo in the continental United States. The unique climate in South Florida allows us to keep a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa, representing a broad mix of species that is unlike any other zoo in the country. Zoo Miami today occupies almost 750 acres, and is home to more than 3,000 animals representing over 500 different species. Of this population, more than 40 species are classified as endangered. The zoo also houses more than 1,000 species of trees, palms and other plants, and over 100 special exhibits showcasing a broad number of species and scientific topics. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) which means we have passed a rigorous application and inspection process and meet or exceed the AZA's standards for animal health and welfare, fundraising, zoo staffing, and involvement in global conservation efforts. Zoo Miami is proud to be an active leader in many global wildlife and environmental conservation initiatives, and we are currently involved in over 36 projects taking place on six continents.

“A walk in the wild”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

This is a superlative attraction for all ages. The zoo is located on a large tract that looks and feels like a wild animal park. Separate areas are devoted to animals from Asia, Africa, Australia, and South America, and the cageless exhibits are located on expansive islands that leave the impression that you are out in the bush. Maybe it was the excellent weather and light crowd, but for whatever reason, animals were visible and active the day we visited, especially the Sumatran tiger and African elephants. The animal-motif playground and splash park will be a big hit with kids. Lakes and tropical vegetation contribute to the park atmosphere. Overall, a world-class zoo housing many endangered species.

“Best Zoo we've been to.”
Reviewed January 15, 2014 via mobile

Zoo Miami is by far the best zoo that we've been to. Our two year old just kept going and going with all of the exciting animals. The open concept enclosures gave him clear site lines for watching the animals move. We used our zoo pass from our local zoo and got half price admission plus 10% off on the gift shop and food stops. We could have easily spent an entire weekend at this zoo and not been bored.

“awesome zoo !!!!!!”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

I really loved this zoo. My girlfriend and I travel all the time and everywhere we go we try and visit the zoo. That being said I think this is one of the best zoos ive ever been to except for the san diego zoo. The open concept is awesome it feels like you could just jump the rails and touch the animals. We watched the river otter show and it was great. They feed them fish and the otters went crazy especially the babies. We also rented the bikes which was 32 dollars for two hours which was worth it becasue the miami zoo is quite large and with the bikes we was able to cover a lot more.

“Great visit for kids”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

The animals are send to sleep at 5pm and the place is huge so if you want to see at least most of it you'll better get there very early . The variety of species is very large but some of them were alone with no partners and the look sad . The food patio is full of people and the tables are filthy as nobody cleans there.
