Owner description: Zoo Miami (also known as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida, and the only sub-tropical zoo in the continental United States. The unique climate in South Florida allows us to keep a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa, representing a broad mix of species that is unlike any other zoo in the country. Zoo Miami today occupies almost 750 acres, and is home to more than 3,000 animals representing over 500 different species. Of this population, more than 40 species are classified as endangered. The zoo also houses more than 1,000 species of trees, palms and other plants, and over 100 special exhibits showcasing a broad number of species and scientific topics. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) which means we have passed a rigorous application and inspection process and meet or exceed the AZA's standards for animal health and welfare, fundraising, zoo staffing, and involvement in global conservation efforts. Zoo Miami is proud to be an active leader in many global wildlife and environmental conservation initiatives, and we are currently involved in over 36 projects taking place on six continents.

We visited the Zoo on a day when the afternoon started with driving rain. Shortly before we started our tour the rain gave way to overcast. This made for pleasant walking along the trail. Later the sun came out and it got hot. It was a long walk and the animals were well spread out so there was plenty to see everywhere. We did not ride the pedal bikes or tram rail, but those were available for those who wished. For the most part the animals were cooperative and other tourists were pleasant as well. Plenty of food and water along the way.

We really enjoyed this zoo. A volunteer mentioned that it was a very busy day... it did not seem so as a visitor. We spent about 3 1/2 hours there - could have used a little more time.

We have been visiting Metrozoo ever since it first opened and this attraction just gets better and better. This year a new and expanded children's play area opened, offering a even more variety for a day at the zoo. There is a great variety of exhibits and the animals are almost all outdoors in natural settings. the admission prices are reasonable, but some of the optional activities (pedal-cab rentals, giraffe-feeding, etc) are priced a bit high for the average family. The overall layout is on a very large tract of land, so be prepared to walk a fair distance to cover everything

We're not zoo fanatics but we certainly enjoyed visiting this zoo. They seemed to have thought it through pretty well. It's well laid out with lots of different ways to get aorund inlcuding a train system, pedal cars, etc. We simply walked it though. The paths and signage were clear.

Almost all the animals seem to have lots of space and things to do. One of my unscientific measures is if the animals are pacing. We only saw one doing that.

Be sure to get to the giraffe feeding before 4:00. They closed it just as we got there at 4:00. Rats!!!

The Zoo was very large, and well organized, Loved the walk and all the animals looked in Great Health. Was amazed at how many animals that they had and at how close you could get to some of them
