Owner description: Zoo Miami (also known as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida, and the only sub-tropical zoo in the continental United States. The unique climate in South Florida allows us to keep a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa, representing a broad mix of species that is unlike any other zoo in the country. Zoo Miami today occupies almost 750 acres, and is home to more than 3,000 animals representing over 500 different species. Of this population, more than 40 species are classified as endangered. The zoo also houses more than 1,000 species of trees, palms and other plants, and over 100 special exhibits showcasing a broad number of species and scientific topics. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) which means we have passed a rigorous application and inspection process and meet or exceed the AZA's standards for animal health and welfare, fundraising, zoo staffing, and involvement in global conservation efforts. Zoo Miami is proud to be an active leader in many global wildlife and environmental conservation initiatives, and we are currently involved in over 36 projects taking place on six continents.

I like the open style of this zoo. No bars or cages. If you are an animal lover like me you will appreciate the freedom of the animals. If you are a kid you might be a little ticked off for not seeing many animals in the heat when they hide in the shade.

Took the lady for a day at the zoo and had a great time. Think we paid around 26 dollars for 2 and arrived fairly early. Overall a good day. I myself have mixed emotions seeing such beautiful animals in such small habitats but it was a good learning experience. The zoo appears to be fairly well kept although some of the areas could use updating. We chose to walk the zoo and they do offer 4 wheel peddle bikes for a fee to travel around the park. I actually found that most people driving them were very annoying and completely disrespectful for the pedestrians walking about. In all a fun day and I would return again.

It was a great place to spend a day, the price was reasonable and the walk around the Zoo was very enjoyable. To avoid the ticket lines and save some money you should buy the tickets online and print them out before you go.

I had not been to this zoo since early '90s! The gardens are just beautiful. Gorgeous palms and plants throughout. The animal experience is pretty awesome too. On the other hand, every time there was something cool to do, it cost $3, which adds up with the entrance fee, food, train etc. We did not rent bikes when we arrived at seeing the long queue at the rental station. Once on the paths, we realized that was a mistake as not only is the place huge, but those on foot are at a disadvantage as bikes rule! Pedestrians have to be on constant lookout for dawdling bikes. We also found signs to be poor and confusing. The layout is not the easiest to follow, particularly when looking for that animal, and on foot it makes for huge mistakes. So biking would have been easier. The animals look happier than in traditional zoos. Our day was well spent!

We live in the islands and we've gone with our kids two years in a row: they love it and so do we.
Very good selection of animals, very friendly staff and they don't kill you when you buy food or drinks as they do in other attractions
Rent one of those 4 seaters "bikes" to go around
And one of the coolest things for us and the kids is to go and feed those giraffes. Very funny

Well recommended to spend a day if you are with your kids in the Miami area
