Owner description: Zoo Miami (also known as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida, and the only sub-tropical zoo in the continental United States. The unique climate in South Florida allows us to keep a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa, representing a broad mix of species that is unlike any other zoo in the country. Zoo Miami today occupies almost 750 acres, and is home to more than 3,000 animals representing over 500 different species. Of this population, more than 40 species are classified as endangered. The zoo also houses more than 1,000 species of trees, palms and other plants, and over 100 special exhibits showcasing a broad number of species and scientific topics. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) which means we have passed a rigorous application and inspection process and meet or exceed the AZA's standards for animal health and welfare, fundraising, zoo staffing, and involvement in global conservation efforts. Zoo Miami is proud to be an active leader in many global wildlife and environmental conservation initiatives, and we are currently involved in over 36 projects taking place on six continents.

“A wonderful adventure”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

A group of concierge and myself spent the day at the Zoo Miami and it was delightful. A very large property so I do recomend to rent a bike, they have the type that can carry 4 guest so the wole family can enjoy. You have to make an all day event of it if you would like to experience all the its offered. You can feed the giraffes, see the monkeys, ride the camel, lots of elephants. A trully beautiful property. Many thaks to the wonderful staff. Zoo Miami might be a bit off the way if your visiting Miami Beach but it is worth the trip.

“Most animal friendly zoo I have visited”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

No cages, no bars, no fences. Large living areas for most animals. The animals in Zoo Miami look healthy and happy. However this has a price since they are relatively far from the visitor. Therefore binoculars and a telephoto-zoom camera are recommended.
The zoo is huge and demands lots of walking. I recommend to rent a cycle. There are cycles for 2, 4 and even 6 people. You'll need between 3-4 hours to ride around and see most exhibits. This might cost $44 ($11 p/h).
Overall we had a great day there. Best way to get there is to drive on the Florida Turnpike south and leave on exit 16.

“Fantastic. Best way to see a giraffe and elephant up-close”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

Unlike British zoos, in Zoo Miami you can buy a beer to enjoy on your leisurely walk around the animal enclosures. Better still, you can hire a bike for about USD 22.00 for two hours: you should definitely do this, as Zoo Miami is huge and the various animal enclosures can be quite far apart.

Feeding the giraffes and parrots (USD 3.00 for a bowl of lettuce and seed respectively) is an absolute must and, in the case of the giraffe, satisfied a long-held ambition of mine. Feeding the parrots is surprisingly hilarious.

I loved this place.

“Great Day at the Zoo!”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

My wife and I visited Zoo Miami while on our honeymoon and it was great! We bought the Groupon so we received a free giraffe feed (which we highly recommend) and discounted tickets!

We just walked around the big oval and saw pretty much everything. It was a great way to spend a majority of the day. We went on a weekday and it was very open, which we really liked. All of the staff are quite helpful if you have questions on animals, where different animals are, and other attractions.

Definitely take your camera because you'll never know what you'll see!
