“A trip back in time.”

If you are looking for a five star experience, forget it: However, if quaint and unique is what you seek, this Inn has all that and more. The duplex was tiny, but clean, the bed comfortable and kitchen was fairly well furnished. The sofa bed was actually a love seat half bed that was not at all comfortable. There is no privacy in the duplex, as the only bathroom is off the tiny bedroom, so I can recommend it only for a couple. The lovely gardens and beach proximity make up for any negatives. I will go back.

My review will mirror many others who have posted. This is the coolest hotel, loaded with charm on the outside. But inside the rooms, sadly lacking. And it doesn't have to be this way! The positives were definitely the outside, especially in the back by the ocean. There are outside "rooms" to relax and visit with other guests, the landscaping is charming, there are bird houses to attract hundreds of singing birds in the morning, benches and swings available, and a short walk to the water. The inside where you register is charming. Everything is charming except the rooms, which lack special touches, good bedding and linens, and a good thorough cleaning! It shouldn't be this way, because it detracts from the overall experience of staying in this unique hotel. I hope the owner reads the reviews and makes some badly needed changes! Just changing the linens alone would improve the feel of the rooms. The sheets were threadbare, the blankets inadequate, and the pillows flat and old...ick. So I'm torn on how to review this place, gorgeous grounds, horrible rooms sums it up. PS: Bring your own toiletries; you get nothing here. And renting chairs for the beach was waaay expensive. Bring your own chairs and towels for the beach.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room with the most comfortable bathroom and bedroom linens, and just see what happ...

I wrote a review previously on this place, and since then, we had our wedding there! No it is not immaculate, it is almost a century old, and right on the water!
We found it to be the perfect wedding location for us! We were able to house our whole wedding party for less than it would cost to have a wedding local to us in ATL.
We rented 2 of the houses and 2 rooms. Everyone had a WONDERFUL time! We all got to hang out on the porch swings on the beach, and had the reception down the street at Toucans.
Very eclectic, relaxed and made for some amazing photos that I have attached to this review.
Would highly recommend!

Reading reviews of the Inn on this site almost deterred me from staying there. So glad I did not listen. I have stayed at many 5 star hotels, and this is not it, it is so so very much more special. Other reviewers pointed out rust on the refrigerator, mold in the bathroom, painting that needed to be done, etc. I saw these minor things, but I also saw a dedicated crew working daily on all these issues. This is not a plastic and formica Inn, it is made of wood that needs constant up keep being so close to the water. This is a place for people who like the ocean, because you are so very close! This is a place for gardeners and people who love to sit outside; the grounds were impeccably maintained and there were several places to gather. This is a place for pet lovers; pet friendly to include a waste can for dog walking and even a dog wash station after pooch has been in the surf! The staff were friendly and accommodating. Stay here if you want a real ocean experience. Stay elsewhere if a little rust on a refrigerator will blemish your opinion of a spectacular and very unique beach experience. I plan to stay again and again.

We stayed in one of the Victorian houses. Everything was awesome the house was clean but not immaculate. I don't expect that at the beach. My family really enjoyed their stay. The rooms were large and they had plenty of kitchen supplies! It was a great place! Beautiful grounds!!

We stayed at the Driftwood about 10 years ago. Loved it. Been meaning to return ever since. We finally got the chance - and returned Oct 2012. Let's do the good first. The staff is still great - the gift shop is quaint - there is an eclectic feel to the place - cool, laid back, lots of greenery - right on the beach - nice spots to sit outside. Lots of good things. Now the bad - and it grieves me to do this - but I owe it to folks who might drive from afar. The place is in bad need of a face lift. The attached pictures will show what i'm talking about. It needs painting, rust removed, cleaning ... a lot of sprucing up - that may cost a dollar or two. But to keep the rates where they are - this will be a must. The general area of Mexico Beach is a bit ... grungy. Port St Joe is a little better - Appalachicola better yet. Our room needed a good old-fashioned cleaning - as the pictures will show. So - look at the great pictures on the website and see the image of the queen from afar - but bear in mind that close up - she is showing her age. Plus - they stopped the complimentary continental breakfast - which was a nice touch and a way to meet and mingle a bit in the mornings. Not sure why they did that. So - if you book it - ask if the painters have been there and if your room is 'really' clean. At the price - rust on the side of the fridge isn't expected - rusty sink and tub drains - and old, ratty rugs by the doors ... not eclectic, not cool. Come on Driftwood - spend a few bucks and restore her to the beauty she once was ! This place has great potential - and isn't that far away from being a great place again.

We were glad to find this spot after driving all day - thought the price of $150 was high for mid September, but hoped for some charm and hospitality. We got neither.
As others have noted, the beach side is pleasant. Everything else is shabby. We couldn't open the windows for a breeze, so had to listen to loud air conditioner. Beds not comfortable. No shampoo or coffee in room (kitchen in room however). Room was clean but there were no rugs on the cold tile floor. Coffee in lobby not available till 8 am.
Beach chairs available to rent for ...get this....$30 a day! You could buy a pair for that price!.

We accidentally locked ourselves out at 7 pm; we couldn't find anyone on site and no contact numbers posted - office was locked despite 'vacancy' sign being lit. I tracked down the office phone number but no one answered. We finally called the police to see if they had any contact info on file; they sent a very nice officer to managed to jimmy the lock to get us into our room. When we left the next morning after 7 am, there was still no one in the office.

Needless to say, we wont be back.
