This is a great place to watch wildlife. Drive the trail at your leisure and pull over to view wildlife at any time. Don't forget to bring binoculars for great bird watching. There are places to pull over and walk some short trails to viewing areas. Definitely do this. We've seen alligators and lots of birds. Bring water and a snack, it gets hot out there. What you are able to see varies everyday, you never know what you'll see. Peaceful and beautiful.

And plenty of visual treats along the way. This is a haven for thousands of migratory birds and several endangered species. We also saw alligators and black bear cubs. There is a long stretch of beach which is the longest section of undeveloped seashore on Florida's Atlantic coast. The lack of development here makes this beach prime sea turtle nesting. We discovered manatees and dolphins just down the road eager for attention. This area can be a bit remote so bring in water and snacks.

This is a gem of a place! Don't be fooled that it says Merritt Island in the name however...access is gained by US1 North through Cocoa/into Titusville then East out to the preserve. It is on the North end of the Kennedy Space Center with access only given to either badge holders (through) our you must go around! However... this scenic tour is great. Certain times of year the water may be lower, less birds, and few alligator sightings. However...from Fall until Spring you can see a plethora of birds! And in the summer you can catch the alligators swimming! Snakes along the road too sometimes...So drive slowly and keep looking! There are designated places to get out and look! This drive (slowly) usually takes about 40 minutes! If you want to see a beautiful pristine beach, head out to the Canaveral National Seashore from there. It's just to your east about 2miles. Follow Signs!

If you like nature, wildlife and flowers you'll love Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. It's peaceful, relaxing and quiet. You can walk some of the trails and drive through other areas. Bring a camera.
