“Hidden treasure”

This place is a hidden treasure. We took my mother-in-law there for her birthday. Enjoyed delicious schnitzel and wine with a lovely view of the colorful sunset setting on the tranquil river.

“4th of July Blues...”
Reviewed July 3, 2014

My husband and I JUST moved to the area 4 days prior. We understand that restaurants get busy and various issues can crop up, but we were there on a Thursday evening (early).
Not only were we about to have out first dinner out, but were excited to speak German with the owner of the restaurant. We asked our server if the owner or other family could come out at some point to speak to our family about their home country as well as the same one my Marine husband was stationed at in the 60's.

Not ONLY were we blown off in our enthusiastic state, but had to ask for water SEVERAL times before getting it.
The Pate appetizer was lovely. I will not condemn a good dish. But...

The Sauerbraten and Combo plate were chock full of heavy (canned?) gravy that made ANY good taste or flavor from the meat OBSOLITE.

What a shame! They could have had REGULARS at their serving 'beck and call' (good tippers at that) if they just would have had BETTER customer service as well as the kitchen not producing a 'machine' for the retirees that have forgotten what good food/good service or good German food is all about.

“Lots to love here”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

After a long day spent running around and baking on the beach we forgot that we meant to have a nice dinner at Cafe Coconut Cove until almost 8:30 (they close at 9:00PM!) Everyone we ran into that day had mentioned that we should try it and this was our last night in town. We put on some clothes (instead of swimsuit cover ups we'd been wearing all week) and made a mad dash down A1A. I think it was literally one minute until 9:00PM when we walked in the door so I fully expected them to say they were sorry but the kitchen was already closed. They welcomed us as warmly as if we were the first guests to arrive for the evening!

Nicely laid out restaurant with a view of the water that we missed because it was already dark.Great excuse to return another day! While we dined, we enjoyed watching a rather nasty storm roll across the water - did result in the staff having to quickly pull up the deck chairs and pull down the outside storm covers on the windows. It made for a bit of excitement to end the day. We had eaten a giant late lunch but so many people recommended the food here we had to give it a try! We were not disappointed at all! My husband thinks German food consists of sauerkraut and bratwurst, neither of which he particularly enjoys. We decided to try the Grill Sampler and split it between us. Even split there was still more food that he could finish. The hot bread and garlic butter served with our salad was so good.

Service was friendly and attentive even though they were ready to go home after a long shift I'm sure. All told, I look forward to going back and next time, I'll plan to get there early enough to be able to relax and enjoy the experience and the view!

When you are driving there, watch for the bright blue sign on the right that says "Cafe". Because of the storm it was really dark and we thought we had reached the end of the island - couldn't see any lights or anything further down the road and turned around. Stopped to ask at the gas station and they assured us it was there! You turn into a short little driveway/parking area. It's worth the effort to find it though. Try the carrot cake! The frosting is very rich and the cake is super moist and tender.

“Great German Dining & Fantastic View”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

A friend recommended this little jewel and we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The cuisine was great, we had appetizers, entrees, a side and desserts. Naturally we had to take some of it home. We were lucky to be seated at a window table and saw a beautiful sunset with our wonderful dinner. The service was very good, we didn't have to wait long for our courses to be served, nor were we rushed either. We will definitely return.
