“a big, overpriced, disappointment”
Reviewed August 26, 2009

when one lives in the holy city of charleston, sc, one becomes exposed to very fine restaurants. when this person compares only average charleston rerstaurants, there is no comparison. dijons is grossly overpriced, especially when the seafood did not taste fresh. non-fresh seafood has that smell and taste that is certainly recognizable-such was the case here.
however the biggest disappointment was the crab cake. it should have been listed as a sausage cake. while we were cautioned about this crab cake, it was nevertheless, a big, expensive disappointment.
our server was very informative, the lettuce wedge was very good; but a celebration evening turned out to be a disappointment. the restaurant had a smell that evening; when questioned, our server said it was "the river". but it was very ironic that a couple of the restroom facilities suddenly had to be closed. we all knew the difference between the smell of pluff mud and raw sewage. i shall not return...

“Keep trying!”
Reviewed July 6, 2009

We went to D'Jons for a special annivesary dinner while we were visiting the area. We were expecting it to be great, but it was strictly average. On the plus side, when one entree was cooked not the way it was ordered or to our liking, the Maitre D' quickly had it corrected. Also we misunderstood and thought the restaurant would have a water view, it did not.

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed February 17, 2009

We went on Valentine's day and were surprised to see a prix fixe menu, which my brother had not been told about when he made the reservations for us to take our parents out for their 50th anniversary. First, the whole place had a foul smell, which persisted through dinner, as if there was a corpse in the kitchen. Entrees averaged about $70, so we expected great things. I have celiac disease and fortunately someone there understood it, but of course my fruit and vegetable substitutions for tortellini and cake were less than thrilling. The portions were meager, the steak not as good as you would expect for the price, the fish flavorless, the lobster tail tough. Worst of all, when dessert came for the 5 of us, one small chocolate cake was placed between my sisters, one between my parents, and a dish of fruit for me - and that was it. At that price we had to SHARE dessert. Absolutely shameful. Even the candle on the table was a naked tea light in a glass. For that kind of price I expected better, and had it the night before at the Chart House. We will never go back to Dijon, especially if that's what you get for their high prices. Certainly not worth our traveling from NJ and Ohio to get there.

“A High-class wannabe”
Reviewed February 14, 2009

The restaurant has been recently renovated. The bar area, now called Red Shoe, is very nice with a lounge area and piano. The main dining area is nice too, but at even 8:30p, the ambience still had not been prepared. No A/C, bright overhead lights, and no music so you could hear everyone's conversations. It was like eating in a cafeteria. But once the staff was told, they did fix the situation. ... The main course was good, but the accompanying mashed potatoes and vegetables were horrible. The green beans weren't even cooked and the potatoes tasted like instant. And the price was extremely high considering the quality....In all, Dijon's is a restaurant that wants to be high-class, to charge high-class prices, but does not want to make the high-class effort to truly be that way.

“Never go on a holiday”
Reviewed October 12, 2008

my husband and I ate there for Valentine's dinner a few years ago 2006. The place was being renovated inside, they had sheers hanging in place of the old walls. We have eaten here before. This time the service and food was terrible.Even other people were complaining. The server never came around. We got up to leave and the owner said your food will be coming out soon. When they finally bought out the food it was cold and my lobster was chewy. I complained but it fell on deaf ears. We will never go back there and eat again. It was a fixed price for couples that night. Very expense!
