We visited Squidlips on a Saturday afternoon. Several seating choices are possible in good weather with most seating having a great view of the Indian River. The view is the best asset of this downtown Eau Gallie/Melbourne eatery. We ordered a calamri appetizer and each had a sandwich from the luncheon menu. The calamari was heavily breaded and deep fried; the oil being less than fresh. My fish sandwich was so coated with breading that the fish was unrecognizable in the greasy mass that was the centerpiece of the sandwich. My partner's wrap was equally unappealing. It was not a pleasant visit, from the food perspective. It is a place that can be missed without penalty.

We are sorry that your dining experience didn't live up to your expectations or to the experience of most of our customers. As you know, all of our fried items are fresh and breaded to order--never prebreaded and frozen--so there is a possibility that from tme to time one of our cooks may overbread an item. If that happens we will gladly replace the meal. Our fry oil is filtered twice a day and completely removed and replace with fresh oil every two to three days depending upon volume. The oil in our fryers was changed on the morning of the 8th which was the date of your review.

We were more than pleasantly surprised!
Our first visit: The food was great! Bimini bread the best! Cajun wrapped jumbo scallops awesome! Multiple interesting seafood entries, Service was perfect; staff was very nice and friendly, dixie land band playing were fun to listen to.... we are looking forward to returning.

“Great view”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

Met our kids for lunch today, Saturday. Great view-lots of options for seating-outside on the sand, casual bar, enclosed dining area or open air dining room. Service was good, food ok-nothing to brag about. Best part is the view-plus we had an unbelievable show from about 4 or 5 large dolphins~Next time in Melbourne we will try another river front restaurant.

This restaurant is located on the waterfront in an old 1925 hotel which has been restored. It is nice to take the time to read about it's history. The offer inside, patio and deck dinning all with a water view. Each area has a bar and when we were there for lunch they had live music near the deck & patio. The food was very good especially the smoked fish spread which was excellent. Mike was a very friendly attentive waiter which made us feel welcome. We really enjoyed everything about this location and will return in the future.

“Bring Back The Mahi”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

This place used to have THE best fish and chips--primarily because they used Mahi. Now they use a much lower grade fish. Their fish and chips were the reason to go here--no longer. Not ever a good idea to cheap-out on ingredients. If your costs go up so be it, charge a bit more to keep up the quality. And yes, even though it's fried you CAN tell the difference.
