For a small zoo, this has a lot going for it. Nice interaction with birds in the aviary and the giraffes. Just big enough for a relaxing afternoon walk, pretty grounds, well kept.

While this can be a half-day trip, most find it best to devote the entire day to the Brevard Zoo experience. This is set up outdoors, with 'zones' - most walkways are wooden deck-type. From otters to giraffes, alligators to vultures, eagles, wolves, monkeys, this zoo is small enough to be friendly and large enough to satisfy those with grander scale tastes. The cafe's sweet potato fries are THE BEST. There's a water park for the younger set, as well as a great petting zoo. For an extra fee, you can kayak around with a guide and see the 'ground floor' of the zoo and watch animals on their 'islands', lemurs, gnus, antelope, ape island. There's also a marshland guide as well.
The zoo personnel are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, and can handle special needs adults and children as well. This is a nice place for families, couples, or just to stroll around and look at the many natural wonders (there's even a bonsai exhibit!) to be found in this great local zoo! Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes - and stay hydrated. You can also feed the animals with zoo food, separately purchased. If you are a teacher, be sure to bring your card, as you will receive a discount on the entry fee. The Treetop Trek zip-line experience is also found here, but it is a separate ticket from the zoo. The giraffes are one of my favorites, and the otters. I enjoy the kayaking, because you don't have to have any experience at all,
it's very safe and user friendly. In the hotter months they have spray stations that mist you with just enough water to keep you comfortable. There are lots of opportunities to rest on benches and they have a lovely collection of birds that free roam near the cafe. Great outdoor photo ops at this zoo too!

Nice Zoo for a family visit. Nothing special but well kept. Nice waterpark area for "little" ones (no big slides or anything). Lots of trees, and the day we went it was hot so the shade was appreciated. We didn't have any children with us but I think they would have enjoyed it for a couple of hours. They have what appeared to be a really nice zip line course (just observed). It works it's way all around the zoo and there are numerous swinging bridges and things. Looked like it would be fun for young people. Better than others we have seen.
I was suprised that they did not have a lot of large Florida Wildlife at the Zoo. No Cougars and black bears?
For the price, it's OK

This zoo is a perfect size for young children. I love the opportunity to get so close to the animals: the petting area, the aviary, the feeding of the giraffes. I love the splash park, but you need to go there last or it's hard to get the kids away. The only downside is the new zip lines, which both the zoo visitors and the animals find annoying and distracting.

What a wonderful zoo to visit! Small enough to be able to see the whole place easily, yet large enough to have some first-rate exhibits. A favorite is the giraffe feeding--they are really up close and personal with you. The emus and deer eat out of your hands. There are machines that you can buy food that is appropriate for the animals. (Take plenty of quarters!) The female jaguar often has cubs with her. The otters have a really cool exhibit and they seem to like to perform for the crowds. A fun lorikeet and cockatiel exhibit excites the children. I thought the train ride was a little expensive for what you see. One of the really nice things is that the food that is sold there is very reasonable and actually good! There's also a play area that's open when the weather is hot for the youngsters with a large wading pool. The zoo added a zip line last year and my relatives like it a lot. The only thing to watch out for is they seem to have "special occasions" a lot and it can be very crowded. I usually check the website to see if anything special is going on.
