Call in mMay to reserve a spot on the best deal around for June and July. They show you a nesting sea turtle at night. Great gift shop and education centter.....all not for profit. You can tell those folks like sea turtles

My family, including 2 boys (aged 10 & 5), had the pleasure of watching loggerhead turtles nest on the beach in Melbourne, Florida. It was an amazing site, that we'll never forget. It was infinitely more enjoyable to watch these turtles for 10-20 minutes than it was to spend the entire day at Sea World, with their contrived animal shows.

The Sea Turtle Preservation Society is a must-go for visitors to the area, basically because visitors often have little or no experience with sea turtles and Melbourne Beach and the surrounding beaches represent the largest sea turtle nesting beaches on the Atlantic (and perhaps in America). Unless visitors get educated on turtles, they might make mistakes like approaching turtles that are crawling on the beach, or using ordinary flashlights or spotlights on the beach, or taking animals on the beach. The STPS has an educational office and shop, and a dedicated staff to help enlighten visitors on sea turtle etiquette. Check with their calendar - they often had speakers come who focused on topics relating to local Marine Biology - that would be great to take in as a visitor from a place that doesn't have sea turtles! Sign up for a guided night-time beach walk in which a sea turtle "expert" takes a small group to see sea turtles nesting. They'll answer questions you didn't even know you had! Make this one of your first stops during your Florida trip so you can help preserve the nesting sites of these beautiful animals.
