Booked the Cottage and the Spa suite together tfor 2 nights to cater for a big group of girls. It was our 50th birthday celebration and wanted some "catch up" time as some of us have not met each other over 30 years. And what a great venue to hold this reunion. The cottage was large and sooo pretty and quaint. My girlfriends absolutely adored the place. As usual, Lesley the owner is so thoughtful and gave us wonderful flowers and a bottle of champagne...so sweet!. Here are the great stuff:

Location:

Albeit further away from the touristy area, we all had cars so it was not a problem. Sufficient parking space for 5 cars at least. Being further away, it was really like we have been transported to fairy land...the cottage is nestled amongst the huge and tall trees and pretty flowers....fresh air all around, lovely! The Puffing Billy train tracks are just outside the cottage so watch out for the train...it caused a stir!

The Cottage

The Cottage has 3 bedrooms and can sleep 8 pax. One bedroom with king size bed and 2 other upstairs with a double + single beds. We had more girls so some girls brought sleeping bags. Plenty of room. 2 bathrooms with toilets. One of the bathrooms has a huge jacuzzi and a rainshower...so nice! There is a huge table which can accommodate 8 pax and a wooden bench at the verandah (behind the cottage) which can sit maybe another 8 pax...so there was plenty of room for our BBQ party. Yes, they have an electric BBQ pit but rather small but we were given another portable one to accommodate our crowd so it was fine.
The kitchen is one of the best stocked kitchen I have ever seen. There is 4 hob gas stove with an oven. A microwave oven and kettle and sufficient cutlery and crockery for our group so that speaks for itself! There is an electric frying pan and even a hand blender to whip our cream...how great is that....
The lounge is big with 2 sofas and a huge flat screen tv. There are games and books available so it was very very comfortable. There is a verandah in front of the cottage and there is a small table with 2 chairs for a cup of tea maybe...

The Spa Suite

This is another lovely unit and very suitable for honey mooners. We took the unit due to our crowd and this unit can fit 3 comfortably as it has a 4 poster bed and a single sofa bed. Can fit 2 kids maybe. A tv is also available. The unit has a huge spa (similar as the Cottage) and a little table for 2. It has a microwave oven, a small fridge and a kettle. It has very quaint furnishing and looks so homey and comfy...perfect!

Not so good point

We only have one BIG complaint...the wifi was terrible!!! The signal was weak and some phones couldn't get connected at all. We need to walk to the reception to get the signal. We would like to suggest that a router be set up in the Cottage itself since it is the furthest from the reception area. I believe the spa suite would not be affected as it is very close to the main building where the reception is.

All in all we enjoyed our stay in this beautiful property. Highly recommended....Great job Lesley and thanks for being so accommodating to our group!!

The cottage was a wonderful place to relax and catch up with friends. 4 adults and 5 children (between 5 months and 6 years) in one place and it was still very restful with plenty of room for all of us. The children loved exploring the garden, the toys, the Puffing Billy at the top of the driveway and the adults enjoyed comfortable beds, a very well appointed kitchen and the little extra touches that made Whistle-Stopover really stand out. Thanks so much, it was just what we needed!

My wife and I stayed two nights at the Cottage for our first year anniversary. Within only a few minutes of arriving, we both felt completely at home. It was lovely! Not many places we've stayed have felt so relaxing and peaceful. Lesley thought of so many nice touches, which we really appreciated and made our stay that much more special.

The cottage is beautiful. When we arrived, there were beautiful flowers outside of the entrance. The gas fire and central heating kept it nice and warm. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals with. The couches were comfortable, and the table was large. The spa has to be the highlight. It's huge and wonderfully relaxing. The bed was comfortable, and there was a good selection of pillows to choose from (4 each, I think). The linen was perhaps the nicest linen we've ever slept on, with a real quality feel and softness to it.

We travelled to the cottage from Melbourne Central on public transport. From Belgrave Railway station, we took the 695 bus to Gembrook. There's a stop right outside Whistle Stopover, so we didn't need to hire a car at all. It was so nice at the cottage we didn't even want to go and explore the surrounding areas.

All in all, we loved our stay, and highly recommend it!

If you're looking for the ultimate escape from a hectic life, then Whistle-Stopover is your oasis. Perfectly located within easy cruising distance of both Melbourne and many great attractions for folk of all ages and interests, the cottage at Whistle-Stopover is also the sort of place you could cocoon yourself - curl up with a book (by the fire in winter), sit on the verandah and enjoy the gorgeous garden and its hidden delights or laze around the pool. Lesley and Peter are excellent hosts and leave you wanting for nothing. My husband and I especially enjoyed the extra touches - fresh fruit and flowers, port, cheese and chocolates and even a bottle of champagne for us to celebrate our anniversary - most thoughtful. We really enjoyed our two nights and thoroughly recommend Whistle-Stopover for supremely comfortable accommodation, ambience and location.

My family and I spent the weekend at the Whistle stop over and would highly recommend it to other travellers. This property is conveniently located right by the Puffing Billy railway line and public bus stop - and therefore it is easily accessible by public transport from Melbourne. The cottage we stayed at was wonderful. It was clean, large and well stocked with modern appliances from coffee makers to a jacuzzi spa. We could tell that the owner had gone out of her way to make the cottage a homely place. There were plenty of books on the bookshelf, magazines in the cabinets and a great collection of movies by the television. The surrounding natural scenery was amazing too- with plenty of green trees and fresh air. All in all, a great place to relax and rejuvenate the soul. We will be back! :)
