“The Perfect Retreat”

Wheatley Provincial Park
Ranked #1 of 5 things to do in Wheatley
Attraction details

If only there could be more places like Wheatley Provincial Park. The moment I arrived to this park with my Mother all my stresses and worries vanished. The lushness and fresh air combined with lovely views of Lake Erie from the bluffs are just some of the amazing things that make Wheatley Provincial Park "the perfect retreat." I just love the serenity of the place. One can walk the marked trails, camp in the woods, bicycle through the park, have a barbecue, swim in the lake, meet some cute animals have a picnic or sit under a shady tree and read a book. If you're longing for a retreat that will make you feel happy and carefree spend a day or two at Wheatley Provincial Park. My heart is beckoning for a return visit to this beautiful park in Ontario.

Most people do not consider Wheatley when they are going to provincial parks. If you live in southern Ontario it is a hidden gem.
We visit the park a minimum of 6 times a season.
There are different sections Boosey is at the first entrance and is a darker area with lots of shade and radio free for those that like to camp in a quiet area. The highlands are nice not all sites have electricity and they are really lacking in shade.
Middle creek is electric and most people are in trailers and campers with the odd tent.
Two Creeks is all non electric with some sites right on the marsh. Lovely to see the Great Blue Herons and Egrets fishing all day long.
The bathrooms are cleaned several times a day and there are single showers and family showers for families with small children.
There is a beach entrance by car at the front of the park and a wooden foot bridge to visit the lake in the two creeks area.
People also canoe and kayak through the marsh, however the levels of the marsh rise and fall with the wind and people do get stuck from time to time on a temporary basis
Point Pele is a national park and is approx. 20 minutes away and once there you can rent a canoe and take a trip along the marsh or take the tram down to the point to see the most southern tip of land in all of Canada.
You can also visit Seacliff beach in Leamington which has a splash pad and the beach is much more child friendly
You may not bring firewood into the park as they are trying to limit damage from invasive pests (ex emerald ash disease).
The staff is wonderful and knowledgeable. Wheatley is a small town with a LCBO that sells beer wine an spirits just outside the park, If you want to shop at bigger stores Leamington is a 20 minute drive down the road

Our family is big on Camping and thought although it was a bit of a drive we would venture out to check out Wheatley Provincial Park.

We planned our "last" minute camping trip for the Canada Day long weekend.
We were told by the office that the only sites available still availabe were non-reservable and we were lucky enough to get one of the very few that were not taken.

We stayed on site #138 (electrical) and other than the rain that fell for the most park of our weekend we found the site very accomodating for the Trailer along with our gazebo.
A really nice size lot with a lot of tree's and shade.

You really can't go wrong with any of the sites throughout the park as they are all a good size with level ground. Some have some very shaded areas where as other's are open.

Beaches are clean and full of people with still plenty of room to relax for the day.

Washrooms/Laundry Facilities are impectably clean!

If it wasnt for the 5 hr drive we would certainly be going back to this park more often.

Happy Travels!!!

We've been camping here for years. The sites are large and private. None have sewer or running water on site, but some have electricity. We like it better than a trailer park because we're not crammed in on top of our neighbors. The staff are friendly and the campground is well patrolled. There are not a lot of activities, the playground equipment is antiquated. The day use area is also large with three rentable shelters and plenty of picnic tables. The beach is left in a natural state.
