After several less than stellar visits to Paneras in Texas last month, I was again on the road and faced with dinner. Seeing Panera sent shivers up my spine, should I listen to instinct and run or roll the dice. Gambler at heart, drive thru pick up it was. My standard order of Big Kid Grilled Cheese and Tomato soup with a bear claw. I have complained on previous posts of the price of this lunch/dinner, after all, a grilled cheese lunch for $17? Bruce (who turns out t be manager) took my order the first night and offered the combo....huh? I had been paying overprice and no one had ever brought this to my attention. Thnks Bruce! The sandwich was on a thick, dense bread with four different cheeses, ooey, gooey, buttery with plenty of chew. The soup is fairly chunky, with bits of basil scattered through out. I seemed to detect a more than slight acidity behind the tomato, perhaps a can? Still, good enough that I ordered this meal every night while in this town. One night, the ball was dropped and my order was not complete. I called, Bruce said come on next visit, a freebie....no questions asked. My faith has once again been restored in Panera, and to think it only takes one good visit!
