There aren't many pubs in Dorset I've not been to over the years, but this was one of them. I spotted it recently when I was driving round some obscure Dorset lanes and vowed to give it a try. Took the family for Sunday lunch and we were all very impressed, a superb place. A proper no-frills country pub with great atmosphere and excellent food. The staff were also top notch, very helpful and very friendly. A good job I don't live in the village otherwise I'd be in there every day! Any complaints? None. Will certainly pop back again.

A rural, no frills village pub with a cosy ambiance in a delightful location. The double bed was very comfortable, the flat screen TV a decent size, the shower was roomy with plentiful hot water and towels. The room, while a little on the snug side, was spotlessly clean and there were tea and coffee making facilities. The light bulb broke on my bedside light and despite a very busy Saturday night in the bar it was replaced immediately. My full English breakfast was one of the tastiest and best presented I've experienced with lots of toast, marmalade and fruit juice, eaten at a rustic stripped wood table with the morning sunshine flooding through the windows. My husband commented on the quality of his coffee (a first!). There were cereals available as well. The landlord, landlady and the lady who cooked our excellent breakfasts were very friendly and welcoming.

Just a couple of things to mention which might be useful: Ladies - the mirror above the sink in our bathroom was the only mirror available and nowhere near a power point for drying/styling hair. We traveled to the locality to attend a function so I had to smarten up. Maybe not a problem for some of you but I recommend you pack a travel mirror. Also, there wasn't a blind at the bathroom window. Although it was small, it looked out on to the public area at the rear of the pub. I hung a towel over it to afford some privacy but if the owners read this, a simple roller blind would be a good idea.

Would I stay again? Yes.

This hotel is a pub with good rooms above and in the adjacent coach house. There is parking at the front or in the road. The village is down a number of narrow roads and all is very quiet. There is a garden at the rear. The room was good with a shower and windows that open. It is under 45 minutes by car from Weymouth and the county town of Dorchester.

Breakfast is fruit juice, cereals and a choice of the normal breakfast foods such as eggs (cooked as you require) bacon, sausages, mushrooms, hash browns etc. All are cooked when seated at the table.

The staff are helpful and very pleasant. I understand that the meals are good but we didn't have our evening meal there. It seemed to be very busy with most if not all tables taken.

In the middle of nowhere - which was lovely and quiet. There was a party going on next door that I think was something to do with the owners - we only know it was happening because they were talking about it in the bar and were not disturbed at all. The bedroom was nice and clean, we had tea and coffee making in the room with a good shower in the morning. Only thing was that there was some soap to wash hands with but no other toiletries. The towels were lovely though. Breakfast was cooked very well, if a bit short on selection -just cereal and cooked breakfast, no fruit offering. All in all it was a nice place and I would go back and stay if the need arose

Staying at a nearby campsite this pub was recommended to us. We had one meal at a different place (The Fox Inn Ansty) before trying the Oak at Dewlish on our last night and we wished that we had followed this recommendation so we could have eaten here twice!
This a great little pub with beautifully stripped wooden floors and furniture. It has a fantastic atmosphere with reasonably priced, and very tasty, pub grub type food. There were lots of locals coming and going, some were just drinking and some were eating as well.
The menu had all the regulars, such as scampi and chips, gammon steaks, burgers, and all of our food was cooked very well with generous portions sizes. Just what you want from a pub!!
It has been ages since we've been to a pub and had such a great meal in such nice surroundings. It's excellent and we would definitely recommend it and we will visit again the next time we're in the area.
