“Not enough time!!!”
Reviewed June 19, 2013 via mobile

There was so much wonder and beauty at the caverns but we felt like we were rushed through each room of the caves. It all went so fast, too fast!!! For the price and the trip we wished we would have been able to look more. Also the older lady who sold tickets at the gift shop was very grumpy towards the children.

“Underground beauty”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

We took our children here to see something that they have never seen before and the "oohh's and "aaaahhh's" were flying! We took the tour given by a park ranger or volunteer that leaves every 15 minutes Thursdays through Mondays. Price is $8 for adults. Well worth the price. The scenery and history was wonderful to see and our kids are still talking about this tour.

“Great camping trip!”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

My family and I just returned from a 3 night camping trip at the Florida Caverns State Park. What a great place to visit. The campsite was great...we were on #6 and it was shaded, very close to the bathroom and also a short walk to the Blue Hole swimming area. We took the flash light caverns tour. All the lights inside are off and you just use your own flashlights to view the formations. The formations are so beautiful! Quite an experience! He even let us all turn off our flash lights so we could experience total darkness. wow! It is the last tour of the day and is more informal. Since there is not a tour coming behind you, you can take your time and ask questions. We even got to go through a room that is not a usual part of the day time tour. Our guide, Billy, was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. We also took the Bluff Trail hike and got to see openings to more caves. The next day we took out our canoe to the Chipola River. The put in is less than a mile from the campsite. We rented a 2nd canoe for the older kids and the lady that helped us informed us of a path of the river that goes through private land but since the water is public we could enter and it took us to a beautiful small set of springs with crystal clear water. There are a couple of underwater caves to explore as well. There is a trail to walk to the 2nd spring and the owners of the land are kind and allow people to walk on their land to get to the spring. They were actually out having a picnic when we arrived and were very nice! They have put up a rope swing to swing out into the water which my kids LOVED! A lot of people mentioned mosquitoes...maybe it was the time of year but we had no problem with them. I had come prepared but it never was an issue. My kids ages range from almost 3 to 19 years old and they all enjoyed this park! My one and only negative is that the playground was 2 miles away from the campsite. Just wished it was closer for convenience sake.

“Florida Caverns”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

What a great day. We arrived mid morning to the State Park to get tickets for the tour of the Caverns. Well worth the $8.00 ticket price for the tour. The tour is about 45 minutes of moderate walking and a few tight squeezes and inclines. There are several hidden exit doors along the path that the guide informed the group about if anyone was claustrophobic and needed to get out. The extensive history of the discovery and digging out of the caverns was detailed by our guide (Carmen). She answered every question and if she didn't know the answer, admitted they would seek the answer at the end of the tour. At the end she explained there are two trails back to the visitor center, one is an additional 45 minutes around other caves and even through one if you can bend down for the duration to the other side which you can see from the start, it's neat. We take lots of pictures so our hike was more than an hour with cool photo stops. There were Spider LIly's blooming on the flood plain which were beautiful, nature all around and of course the many caves to peek into. Many ecological variances on the hike. We were in boots from riding a motorcycle in, however we saw people on the trail in sandals that seemed to manage the terrain ok. This was a fun couple of hours, we'd do it again. This was a weekend excursion to the Panhandle as we live in the Tampa Bay area. Being as this was a holiday weekend (Memorial Day), they were running tour groups of 25 +/-or every 15 minutes however we never met up with anyone in the caverns. A must if you are in the area.
