Owner description: Long famous for its Key Marco Cat- one of the most remarkable and influential discoveries in North American archaeology- the new Marco Island Historical Museum explores Southwest Florida's Calusa Indians and bring this vanished civilization to life with informative displays and an exciting recreated village scene. Temporary and traveling exhibits trace the settlement of this subtropical island paradise from its early pioneer roots as a fishing village, pineapple plantation and clam cannery, through its explosive growth and development in the 1960s by the Miami-based Deltona Corporation.

“Worth 10 or 15 minutes of your visit”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

Went there to get a feel for the history of Marco Island and the Calusa Indians. The Calusa Indian display had no information as to what the diaramas were supposed to indicate. The person who greeted us gave a brief overview but the rest was up to us and it wasn't intuitive. The information of what Marco Island looked like before and after development was interesting but could have been better displayed. it looked like some people on Marco Island went throught their storage and found some things to donate or loan to the museum. But, I thank the volunteers who keep it running.

It was very interesting to see the history of Marco Island and how it transformed from a sleepy little village to one of the most beautiful places in Southwest Florida.

This museum is fairly new and growing. It tells the history of the island and the Indians. I learned a lot and found it very interesting.
