“It was a lovely stay, I would stay here again.”
Reviewed May 17, 2007

We had a long weekend with our 11 and 16 year old. We spent 4 nights here. The hotel was lovely and the staff extremely friendly. Didn't spend much time in the pool bar so I have no comment with regard to bar staff. The drinks were very expensive so we kept our pool/beach drink service to a minimum. Did not order food at the beach, but saw people that did and the bird issue, stealing food was not that bad. The hotel was not that busy and was clean and calm. The beach staff were WONDERFUL! They made sure you were comfy and brought around glasses of cold water and sherbert in the afternoon. We rented a waver runner right on the beach and enjoyed the beautiful beach and warm ocean water and breezes. The negative comment I have is that when you are looking out your window you feel like you are far away from the beach. You feel clustered in a mass of buildings. The lay out of the hotel is very different, you wind around entry ways and canopies, which are lovely to get where you want to go, but different. The Bell staff are very pleasant and always speedy with the car delivery. Rooms are excellent. Ordered room service every morning the staff were so professional and made us feel very special. Service was great. The required attire made us feel uncomforable before we arrived, after arriving no one made us feel under-dressed. We did not bring suits and ties/evening clothes so we had no intention of going to the restaurants inside the hotel. We left each night to dine elsewhere. Tara's -Great, Arthuro's-wonderful, 5 Brothers outstanding pizza, A great little restaurant out past the marina.
that had the best Pawn Dinner it was like eating Lobster. It is not cheap, but well worth the money, it is to be expected on a resort Island. The other annoyance was that the brush fires started the night before we were leaving. You could see the smoke in the air and smell smoke in the room with the windows closed and A/C on . I felt sorry for people who were just starting their vacation-It was awful!
I would go back to this hotel it was lovely.

Wonderful Resort!!! I highly recommend this place-I stayed over the weekend with my husband and his family and we were treated like royalty. Jennifer (she cleaned our room) was very nice and took good care of us. She made sure we had plenty of clean towels, ice, toiletries, etc. The room was not very spacious but very tasteful in decorations and the King size bed was cozy with it's down comforter and feather bed. We had a small but efficient kitchen with oven, marble counter tops and plenty of plates and silverware. We were on the 5th floor, right next to the pool and jacuzzi, and had a terrace with huge patio area beyond the gate. The bartenders were very polite and the drinks were great if a little pricey ($9 for reg drink $12 for frozen) We got free towels and beach chairs and we could leave the beach and come back and our chairs would still be there. I suggest the jetski tour they have-We all took it and our guide Mike was great. We got to see dolphins swim right up to our jetskis and it was worth the &148 per vehicle. All in all I rate this hotel 9 out of 10. The only reason why I didn't give it a ten eas because the mini fridge did not cool food very well but I would go back again and again.

  • Liked — Service, Location, Water sports, Ambiance, beach
  • Disliked — The casual business attire required to dine at all of the restaurants after dusk.

My husband, teenage daughter and I stayed at this resort for 5 nights during April 2007. This hotel was beautiful and perfect in every way. Start with the hotel suite; granite and marble in the kitchen and bathroom, beautifully decorated, and spotlessly clean. The maids due a superb job and even wash the dishes in the sink. The service of all the valets was excellent as well. Call from your room that you need your car and by the time you were down the elevator, your car was waiting with the doors open and ready for your departure. The beach was spectacular and the service there was excellent as well from setting your chairs and towels to the waiter/waitress service for your lunch or cocktail. The only annoying part here was if you left your chair for more than 45 minutes, your chair was given to another guest.
Every staff member I met was courteous and very accomodating. I would highly recommend this resort!

Taking our first vacation with our seven month old, we found this resort perfect for our needs. We were looking for a resort that was baby-accessible while feeling like an upscale experience.

The facilities here are quite nice, and do have a luxurious feel to them. There's plenty of marble fixtures to be had, and the physical property does feel like a Ritz-lite. The public spaces do make you feel like you're staying somewhere nicer than the standard issue beach resort. The landscaping was very nice, with plenty of lush green around.

Our suite was lovely, with excellent fixtures, a functional kitchen, comfortable bed, and nice balcony. The bathroom was one of those you think about after you've left - very spacious, wonderful fixtures, great shower, marble, etc.

We spent a bunch of time in the pool area, which we really liked. It was never overly crowded. The pool itself isn't huge, nor is it luxurious. But it's clean, comfortable, and near a outdoor bar/grill with tables or chair delivery.

The beach was very wide and expansive. In this part of Florida, there's plenty of shells so the beach isn't pure sand, but it's as pretty a beach as there is in Florida, and the chair service (including food/drink delivery) was very good. Chairs are pretty close together here, so you can feel like you're on top of people.

The layout of the resort is a touch awkward, as you've probably read by now. You do have to traverse an indoor garage making your way out to the beach or to the restaurant. Pretty poor design.

We had a few issues with their food offerings. They have the same menu for room service (which we obviously had to use most nights, being with baby) and the pool and beach grills. The menu was passable, but the fact that there's no fresh fish (where's the grouper sandwich?) and that the calamari was clearly frozen is, frankly, inexcusable for a resort of this standing.

Their main restaurant - Sale e Pepe - was actually spectacular. We are New Yorkers, and don't go to Florida - least of all a beach resort - to go eat upscale Italian. We tend to think it's silly to even have upscale Italian places at beach resorts, unless it's an Italian resort. But, we decided to try it, and we left really impressed. The food was very well done, and the restaurant itself was breathtaking. We were annoyed by the jacket policy in the fine dining room - and the no sandals policy in even the more casual Saletta - which is overkill. But, I have to say that the food really was worth it - even with the exorbitant tabs.

The service was very good overall. You're always going to have a little hit or miss - the concierge tends to stare down at you a little like you're invading their luxury home, while the pool bar staff sometimes forgets your drink - but overall, the staff were friendly and helpful.

I won't call this an exceedingly kid-friendly resort (how could it be when the only dinner restaurant had a dress code for everyone, including kids), but it is certainly kid-accessible. We didn't get any funny looks when our son was howling poolside, and there were plenty of other families traveling there. The kids that we saw, however, weren't running amok, and honestly blended in as well as you could expect. We also saw couples without children, and they all seemed to be having their own romantic times.

In the end, we'll certainly consider returning here, and we do recommend it for both families or couples.

My wife and I (we're in our mid 50s) had a 6 night stay in mid April and just loved this resort. No it isn't the Ritz Carlton (nor is it priced like one) but based on the overall value including physical beauty, service, amenities, food and location this resort is in rare company. We enjoyed the beach and breakfast package and found all of the service staff to be first rate. We stayed on the 12th floor and enjoyed a wonderful view of the gulf and perhaps because it seemed maybe half full was enjoyably quiet, not something you expect in a mid-rise hotel. The happy hour at the beach bar is also a good deal. I highly recommend the MBOR!

I can't think of a better place to stay if you are looking to relax, rejuvenate, meet classy fellow travelers, even classier resort employees. My visit was 100% wonderful (OK...maybe 99.9% since my room wasn't ready until 4:45pm rather than 3pm...) I hesitated to write a review because I would like to keep this wonderful place 'all to myself'...truly wonderful!
This resort puts any Ritz in Florida to shame.
I hope to be able to return year after year! The rooms are fabulous (all suites with great kitchens and huge bathrooms); the food was fresh and excellent; the beach, pool and services wonderful(the set-up on the beach is fabulous! They really do this very well)!; the staff is extremely and consistently kind and helpful; great housekeeping; fast room service...I really can't find anything negative to say. (PLUS! Great sunsets and shell gathering provided by Mother Nature!)
I highly recommend this resort!

We have a large family that usually involves two rooms. Our first preference was naples, but due to availability, we ended up in Marco. We had stayed on the island 20 years ago and it was nice. Upon searching the Web we came up with this hotel. We are currently staying there right now. Upon booking, the staff said it was on par with the Ritz, just doesn't have the experience to have the same rating. Simpy not true! A nice hotel, nice rooms, quality beach. If your looking for a family vacation without the ritz price and want the convienence of having a mini kitchen, this would be a good choice. We like the location. The pool, while small, is great for kids. The ocean is nice, but they set up chairs in 5 rows or so. They probably don't have much choice, but makes it a challenge to view the kids the whole time. The rooms were nice, but not luxurious. For a newer hotel, I expected a bit more. To make this truly a 5 star, add wallpaper, wireless internet, flat screens and most of all service everything and everyone. That is truly Ritz quality. Our only true problem with the hotel has been the kitchen sink and fridge. The sink was backed up the first day. We called the staff, but they didn't show for two days. The fridge didn't work the first two days either.
I would return here again, but would shop very carefully on the price.
