Marco Island is a quietly booming vacation area that is totally different than the Central Florida (Orlando) and Eastern Florida (Miami, Jacksonville, Daytona) areas that we have visited before. The Southern Gulf Coast has soft waves to soak in and Sand Bars to picnic on - and to snorkel and collect shells. The Marriott is redone and seems brand new. It has great pools (too bad no diving boards or life guards) and an amazing beach (again, no life guards). The rooms are clean, dry, perfectly A/Ceed, but they are a bit on the small size (a family of 4 will feel squeezed). There are "Gulf View Rooms" that have great views and others that have fair views so I'm not sure it was worth the extra $. Forget the restaurants at the hotel (other than the poolside ones, like Quinns) and instead go down the block to the Restuarant Plaza that includes Konrads (the best Prime Rib in the USA), Irish Pub, Captain Brians, Sushi, Rookies Sports Bar and Giavonnis. These restaurants are all great - and fairly reasonable. The Marriott Concierges are great! They set us up with an independent charter, Captain Corey and his catamarran. We had hours of dolphins, manitees, shelling, snokeling and swimming for a fraction of what the Marriott boating charges. We also did Marriott Parasailing and Waverunners which were incredible (but very expensive). The Marriott is very fair in that you can spend as little, or as much as you want - there are no surprises. Forget the Bahamas, you have to try Marco Island, and the Marriott is a great choice.

My boyfriend and I just return from Marco Island yesterday after a week long stay. He is a Platinum member with Marriott, so we are always looking for the best accomodations when we travel. We booked our vacation using Marriott points, and after reading a few previous reviews, I was anticipating "not so great" service because of that. Needless to say, our entire experience with the hotel staff and our accomodations have exceeded our expectations. The bellmen were exceptionally helpful in bringing our luggage to our room when we arrived. The front desk helped us immediately and our welcome gift (we chose the wine and cheese) arrived soon after we got settled in.
Being in our late 20's, we chose Marco Island because of the beautiful pictures and wonderful reviews we have read on Trip Advisor. Our only complaint was that we didn't find that there was much nightlife outside of the resort and even when we hung around the hotel, we found that the bar/lounge closed at midnight. Now, that was really the only minor thing that we can find wrong. We were there to have a relaxing vacation, but would've liked to have more to do some of the nights. We did check out the lobby bar twice and had a great time meeting other couples. The bartenders that were there both nights were extremely friendly and very personable.
Based on past TA reviews and checking out the hotel restaurant menus, we decided to venture most of our breakfasts/dinners out of the resort area because we found the prices to be outrageous ($9.50 for a Pina Colada by the pool, $13 for a salad, etc.) We enjoyed our breakfast at Breakfast Plus, a dinner at Captain Brien's, and when we did splurge on a dinner, we ate at Kurrents at the hotel. For the two of us, our meal came to about $150, but it was worth every penny in the end. If you care to venture out to Naples (about a 30 min. drive), check out Yabba's Island Grill. A little on the pricey side, but again, worth every penny for the food.
The beach was gorgeous, except for all the shells that you step on, but it's fun walking around picking up the shells! Bring a bag or something to put the shells in because you will find that you pick up a lot of them. The Gulf water is very soft and relaxing. Watch out for the stingrays that may be around! We didn't see any, but there were warnings posted to be careful.
The only downside of our hotel room was that we could hear everything that was going on in the hallway. In the morning I could hear housekeeping knocking on the door next to ours. I could hear kids running down the hall and their parents yelling after them. Again, not enough to discourage or ruin my vacation, but was a little upset at being distracted by some of that noise.
All in all, we had an awesome, relaxing vacation. It felt surreal to me to have such beautiful scenery (the ocean, white sand, palm trees). We will definitely return to this resort in the future.

My husband & I went to the Marriott at Marco Island for a second honeymoon after almost 20 years of marriage. I am a former travel agent and am VERY picky about where I stay. I did a lot of searching before I settled on this hotel. I couldn't have been more pleased. We were like kids in a candy store discovering everything there is to discover about this hotel. We both decided that the first day was our favorite day - realizing that the place lived up to our high expectations. The ONLY thing that wasn't great was the water pressure. It was a fabulous showerhead, but the pressure was low. I was so thrilled with everything else that I overlooked it though. They really paid attention to every little detail. They were constantly cleaning around the property without getting in anyone's way. The pools were great. Since we didn't have the kids with us we hung out at the more adult one. There were kids there also, but most of the families hung out at the pool with the waterfall and slide. The food in the restaurants was great too. I will have to say that this place was very expensive, but if you go knowing that you won't mind because you will feel like you are in paradise!

We have just returned from a week at Marco Island, our daughter came with us. Overall the hotel is a great place to chill out, the rooms are a good size and the food is reasonably priced (bearing in mind we were converting everything into £ at a good exchange rate). The main restaurant busy, breakfast is good value but make sure you check you have been charged for the right buffet. The staff were attentive and remembered us from day to day.

Parking is a bit of a challenge, we were not told of the nightly charge of $10 plus tax, most of the UK brochures quote free parking. The driveway can be very busy and is quickly blocked. Activities, even with a good exchange rate, are very expensive (£35 per hour to rent a Hobiecat $140 per hour for Jetski)

Overall this was a good break for us having been in Fort Lauderdale and New York, but think carefully if you have teenage children with you, the options for activities for this age group are limited. Get out early if you want sunbeds near the pools at busy times, although there are signs saying the reserving is not allowed and items will be removed if beds are not used, there was little evidence of this being enforced.

We recently spent a week at the Marriot on Marco Island. The property itself is kept in good condition. Their are two pools, with one mostly for families and little ones. The resort has two towers, with the North Tower apparently having been renovated. The South Tower, where our room was located, was nice, but not spectacular.

We received a King size room. For four people, it was a bit cramped. Four year old slept on pull out sofa. For some reason, the resort advertises itself as being family oriented, but has mini trash cans in both the main room and the bathroom. About two pieces of garbage can be placed in both. If you have diapers, bring bags and dispose elsewhere.

Pools are nicely kept. However, a bit of chair monopoly is employed by guests heading down early and marking their territory. While the hotel has signs that advises that 'unattended items will be removed', we saw chairs and umbrellas not being utilized all day, and they were located in front of the pool hut. Food and drink are both expensive. Alcoholic drinks run around 8 bucks, while a grilled cheese sandwich runs around $12, so bring the credit card.

Beach is also nicely maintained. The Marriot rents umbrella, which run around $18 a day, while chairs are complimentary. Or one can go down the road and buy an umbrella for $16 and just use that.

All in all, the resort was nice, but just a bit over the top with the prices.

We just returned home yesterday. When making your reservations, ask for the South tower . The view overlooked Quinns Pools and the great beach area. The South Tower was recently renovated with new furniture, bedding, etc. However, the big pillows you CANNOT sleep on. The other smaller pillows are quite lumpy. I did my research & printed out many restaurants menus on line with prices so we knew exactly where to go for dinners. Capt Brians - right down the block opposite the Hilton. Very reasonable, and also served breakfast. Breakfast Plus for breakfast - so many choices. However, you must go grab your chairs around the pool first. I am an early bird so I was out the the pool by 7:30 AM to grab our 3 chairs. We ate lunch inside at Quinns insde restaurant - many flies, very annoying and gross. Then we tried their pizza place - clean & good food but still ran about $45 for lunch. We stopped in at the local supermarket as pickup milk, oj and ceral and had breakfast in our rooms. You can ask for refrig. Also DO NOT touch the minibar unless you use it. My daughter just opened it and removed some of the items and put the back - we were charged for everything - had to call the front desk & have charges removed. Also, watch for double charging for valet versus self parking. Water sports very expensive. Overall, we loved it - the beach was clean and the gulf waters warm. Grounds are beautiful.

We were celebrating our 21st anniversary and wanted a clean, nice place on the beach. We recently stayed @ the J.W. Marriott in Orlando, FL, so we figured that the Marco Island Marriott would be nice too. We were very happy with our overall stay, the scenery was beautiful and the accommodations were very nice. The hotel staff was very friendly and courteous. Our room was very clean, neat and we had a great view of the Gulf(stayed in the beach front unit, directly overlooking the ocean in the South tower). We did however have a few minor issues:
Upon check in, I looked over our original room on the 4th flr, North tower, it was older and had a musty smell. I promptly rejected it and requested to be moved to the south tower. within minutes a bellhop arrived to move us and we were very pleased with out room on the 5th flr, south tower. Basically, I wouldn't recommend the North tower until renovations are complete.
If you want the best view and a quite room, spend the extra money and stay on the ocean front, south tower. It's by far the best view of all the rooms. I also advise 4th floor or higher to avoid noise from the pool area and again, you get a better view of the ocean. Sunsets are beautiful from the balcony!
Food: We purchased a package w/ the breakfast buffet and I highly recommend it, also, I highly recommend the dinner buffet too. It was very good and the line cooks were more than happy to make anything you didn't see, within reason.
We also ate @ two other locations, the restaurant next to the pool, it was OK. The other location was the "400 Pizzas", it was terrible, the worst tasting pizza I've had in years, very bland, no flavor & over priced to say the least, don't go there!
One very nice thing the resort did for us while there, was ask if they could send up some champagne & chocolate covered strawberries(@ no charge of course), that was really nice!

All in all, I give it a 4 out of 5 and would definitely return. I hope this helps.
