“Welcome to the Island (Beach Wedding)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2012

We selected this property to hold our beach wedding event. This hotel was amazing. We had a suite room 1155. beautiful room, but if you don't have kids ask to stay in the tower closer to the adult pool. If you have kids stay in the Palms tower it puts you right near the kids pools. The pools are great and the beach is great. The hotel is very well kept and after looking at most of the hotels in Marco I would highly suggest this one. The drinks & food on the grounds are ridiculously expensive but no better or worse than any other high end beach hotel in South FL. One suggestion is to make sure your room has a mini fridge. We stocked ours with beer, food and waters and saved $100's dollars by taking that stash to the pools. On the grounds Quinn's has good food and fun drinks it is just really pricey. You will pay $11-$13 per island type mixed frozen drinks and $16 to $19 sandwich / wrap. Shrimp BLT was nice & the Cuban sandwich was great. You don't have to get an Ocean Facing suite to have a nice view, but they are nice if you can talk your way into one. FYI early May is dead hardly any people at this resort or really on the Island. It was great. We valeted our jeep & they made sure to always put our Jeep Wrangler's top up every night. Nice service. Bed & pillows were really comfy. The suites were really nice.

Room Tip: Palms tower is on the far end near the kids pool. If you don't have kids ask for the other side...

We have been going to the Marriott spa for several years for both treatments and day passes to the pool as well as having lunch and drinks at the pool.

The Marriott treatments received (massages, etc) are still top notch. The changes to the pool area include new cabanas which are nice and an expansion area which includes a new mineral bath with overlooking views of the beach. These two upgrades are a wonderful addition to the spa experience.

Unfortunately, the food service for the pool area certainly has been a change for the worse. In years past, menu items have included fresh salads (my favorite of which was a seafood crab salad with avocado which was to die for, served in a huge ceramic bowl). To my unpleasant surprise this year, the salads are now prepackaged, not fresh, served in plastic containers that are similar to ones that McDonald's uses for its salads. Sure, I remember the seafood crab salad from last year being around $20 or so, but that salad was very unique, very well prepared, flavorful, and very filling. The pre-packaged salads of this year are $9.99, but are very ordinarily fake.

Being that I was not aware of the change prior to going to the spa, I was saving my appetite for the wholesale seafood salad from last year, and to my surprise was treated to a more generic version which, although was cheaper, was definitely not filling.

I am not sure if this change is to allow quicker service from the wait staff or because the spa is trying to attract a different customer base that cares more about light fare and drinks more than a good lunch that is fresh and unique.

Next time I go to Marco Island, I will make the extra trip to Naples to visit the Ritz Carlton Spa. Hopefully, the Marco Island Marriott may consider adding their old menu back in offering fresher salads that I will enjoy.

My boyfriend and I just returned from 5 nights at the Marriott. This was his first trip to the resort and my second. The property itself is incredible - extremely well kept and clean. The staff is friendly, courteous and always willing to answer any questions you may have. The activities offered are very well priced and the recreation staff is knowledgeable and pleasant to be around - excursion detail to follow. We only ate on the property twice; there are a number of restaurants two blocks away across from the Hilton that were much more affordable, plus it's nice to take a short walk and enjoy the gorgeous weather.

We had three complains about our stay...first, the housekeeping stinks - the only thing they did was make the bed and change the towels. We used the glassware provided the first night and it remained dirty the entire stay, it was never replaced or cleaned; same goes for the coffee paper cups, they were never replaced. Our mini bar was half stocked when we arrived and never refilled, which was fine because we didn't plan on buying anything, but it's still not exactly up-to-par. They also never replaced the shower gel or shampoo. We got multiple bottles of lotion and conditioner daily, neither of which we used, but no replacements of shampoo or shower gel. Second complaint is the diesel exhaust fumes and the noise from the buses - if you're room is towards the front of the resort there is no way you can sit on your balcony unless you want to listen to buses and inhale exhaust - neither of which are relaxing or healthy. Luckily we were able to switch rooms and were moved midway between the entrance and the ocean which helped a great deal. Third, although you can't hear noise from the room next to you (so quiet it seemed sounds proof which was awesome!) the doors to the hallways are paper thin and you can hear everything people are saying in the hall. Most nights this wasn't a problem, but one night in particular people decided to have a drunken conversation in the hall at 3am. Obviously the resort can't control where people talk, but people need to be more courteous as to how loud they are in the middle of the night, especially since the resort does have a lot of older folks and families.

As far as recreation goes...it's just plain awesome...we did something different almost everyday and it was convenient and affordable.
1) 10,000 island waverunner excursion - had a blast and saw manatees, dolphins and tons of birds. The tour guide was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and new exactly where to go for us to get a great tour of all the islands.
2) Sailing and shelling tour right from the resort - the most relaxing part of the trip to the point where we contemplated going on it a second time - we saw a bald eagle, dolphins, tons of birds and found incredible shells. The tour guide Tom was not only knowledgeable about the wildlife, but also helped find shells and knew the names of what we were finding.
3) Last but not least we took a drive to the everglades with the guidance of one of the resort concierges Peggy. We drove down Turner Road on our own (we rented a car) and saw a number of alligators - FYI if you decide to do this bring bug spray the mosquitoes are terrible. While in the everglades we also decided to go on one of Speedy's airboat tours - recommended by Peggy. We were hesitant at first basically because we didn't know what to expect, but were extremely glad we decided to go. The tour was awesome. You're brought through narrow paths through the mangroves so close you could touch them. Wild life is hit or miss, but we were lucky enough to see a baby sea turtle, and of course vultures and tons of other birds.

The resort itself is located on a great stretch of beach for shelling and has a spectacular view of the sunset. We saw two baby sting rays, dolphin's and a number of conch's, crabs, and fish just while walking the beach at night. Its close location to Naples makes dining and shopping options endless. Overall, minus the lack of housekeeping, diesel buses, and noisy hallways, this place is absolute paradise and we can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: It's pretty much impossible to sit on your balcony if you're in a room closer to the entranc...

Service was great all the way around. We especially enjoyed being picked up on the beach and going sailing with Capt. Shannon. It was a very relaxing afternoon and she has a terrific wildlife knowledge. The concierge provided great info on sight seeing. The brunch buffet was terrific and included fresh squeezed orange juice. They also offered anything on the breakfast menu if that was what you wanted.

Room Tip: We had an ocean and a pool view from the 4th floor. Our friends had a tree view on the 3rd floor.

This was our third stay at this property, and it has been consistent in its delivery of excellent customer service, beautiful & comfortable rooms, and an outstanding breakfast buffet. First off, we spent 10 days at this resort, and every single staff member was gracious and cordial to us every day, despite the huge groups they were entertaining. Speicific standouts for stellar customer service were Angie at reception and Tico at valet services. Their kindnesses were high points for our stay! The buffet breakfast was awesome, and now includes artisan cheeses and a bloody mary bar with all the accoutrements! Delish and delightful! Our waitress Jannika at Tropics was efficient and fast despite her many tables, and we really appreciated her sweet disposition. This is a very well run resort with dedicated staff who care if you have a good time! If there is something you may want or need, don't think twice to nicely ask for it, the Marriott staff is the most considerate we have ever encountered in our many travels.

We were really looking forward to staying here as we had booked an ocean view and I had visions in my head of staring at the ocean from the bed......
Checked with Reception that the room is an ocean view...yep she says. It was Room 856 in the North Tower....the view is of the condo block next door...to see the ocean you have to go onto the balcony and look sideways.....not quite what we had envisaged. There are three of us and the room is made up for two, no hairdryer, cups (and they were paper!!!), shower caps....all irritating niggles!
We go for an explore and end up eating at Quinns on the Beach, making the mistake of sitting outside as the sun goes down......out come the critters and we got eaten alive!
Beach charges $18 for three sun beds and a parasol - it is an exquisite beach...bright white sand, truly idyllic.
There were so many people here on a conference in their office attire that we feel out of place in our holiday gear.
All in all this wasnt one of favourite hotels along our road trip - every day the room was catered for two people and not three - so we had to keep asking for items.
The beach and the island itself were beautiful - if we were to return we would stay somewhere else.

Upon arrival to the resort I gave the front desk agent my name and her response set the tone for the rest of our stay. "Welcome to Paradise, Mr. Erickson!" I have been to the resort before but for some reason this time the greeting really meant something. The room was spectacular and well appointed. I think it was one of the larger rooms I have ever stayed in. The grounds were exceptionally well manicured. As a matter of fact my partner asked me if the grass was real at one point. The Food and Beverage teams rocked! I love the Black Berry Lemonade (had Vodka) that is served resort wide. The recreation staff is top notch as well. I highly recommend that you take the Sailing and Shelling tour. Shannon was our captain. Best experience I have ever had in any activity at a resort. The activity sounds kinda "sleepy" but we had a blast and learned something! Special thanks to all at the resort who stand out, including Andrea, Steve, Mike, and Rick!
