“My new favorite place....”

What a wonderful, beautiful, peaceful resort. We are Marriott Vacation Club owners and have had the pleasure of staying at many wonderful properties. This was no exception. I was hesitant on writing this because I almost want to keep it to myself but that would be selfish of me. The resort has all the modern style and sophistication of a South Beach hotel without the overcrowded, loud partiers. It is perfect for families or couples looking for a great place to enjoy the beach and relax. The website photos do not do it justice. The resort is only 2 years only so everything is in tip top shape. The accommodations are spacious and plush. We will definitely be back.

Well....this trip happened last minute so we had no expectations, other than knowing if it's Marriott, it would be good. It certainly was -- in relative terms. Having stayed at some very very nice timeshares in the Marriott family, what we found missing in this one may have mattered at another juncture in our lives, but we were here just to get some rest after a family funeral.

We got the rest we needed -- Marco Island is sleepy in comparison to other locales. We weren't up for a million activities or interested in nightlife so this was the place to come. The beach was stunning in its serene beauty - the weather was IDEAL (tho they are suffering from a drought, we were glad it didn't rain on our trip).

Crystal Shores, unlike other timeshares we have enjoyed, has a restaurant on premises open to outside guests -- this made it a bit tough to compete for the sunset ringside seats each evening, but when we did luck out, we had no regrets... the view, the camaraderie (clapping as the sun went down) and the food, were all good.

My husband and I traveled there with our 20-something daughter who loves the beach (she lives in West Palm), but were relieved we had not brought along our 18-yr-old son. There were no waves to catch, not much in the way of girls to ogle, and other than resting in the inviting hammocks, not much in the way of fun for that age group. There was no on-site Pizza Hut, their little gift shop left a lot lot be desired, no ice cream vendor...these are some of the things we noticed we had enjoyed at other Marriott properties that made it seem a bit basic at this Marriott. We did catch a movie on movie nite - by one of the pools. The popcorn tasted stale :(

Two of the 7 days we spent there, the pools had issues and were closed off. Bummer. We are ocean folks so that was not a big deal, but made us wonder who was in charge there. We felt the place kind of ran itself -- there seemed to be a lack of folks on staff cleaning and straightening and gardening like we have witnessed at other Marriott timeshares. Was it the season? (May?) I am not sure, but the place could've used a bit of manicuring.

This brings me to the creeper event we had happen to us here -- a well-dressed (as well as you can be in a bathing suit) apparent hotel guest (he had a Marriott beach towel) befriended us our second day there and it soon became apparent that he was a vagrant -- but not before he used our name with the staff to say he was our guest -- long story short, he was asked to leave the premises eventually once we all realized he was a scammer, and then he failed to obey the request , returned and had to be arrested. YIKES. That's when we met the two hotel security people who reassured us we were safe (?) and even offered us another room -- which we declined. We had not given The Creeper this info tho my daughter was terrified to go anywhere alone, even on premises after Tues., when this all surfaced. We were later told he had been doing this up and down the beach for a while. Not very reassuring that he had such easy access to the Marriott property (he even sat with us on movie nite for a while...creeeeeeeppppyyy) before we realized he was homeless. OMG!

OK, so all that said and done, this is a beautiful spot to get away -- just keep your guard up (which we did not). Marriott could re-think their security -- access on property was easy tho you needed a keycard for the elevators which was a pain in the rear, frankly, They should give out lanyards that hold the keys -- that might make it easier than fishing for them inside beach bags, purses, wet bathing suit trunk pants, etc...

Marco is quiet so don't go looking for nightlife (tho we did have cocktails at the beautiful Marriott hotel property up the street). Definitely an older crowd, too. We did explore and found places that were fun. Definitely a nice quiet place to spend a week!

Stayed at Marriott Crystal Shores and found the location, staff, view and accomodations excellent. These two bedroom condo/timeshare units are spacious with a floor to ceiling glass wall that opens to a full-length balcony. Kitchen facilities with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. Ocean/Gulf front views show amazing sunsets.
Two pools, one with a slide and often in shade (perfect for small children); the other open and in full sun. Beach facilities run by off-site company and the staff there efficient but somewhat pricey for 2 beach chairs and umbrella. Bring beach sandals or water shoes since beach is loaded with shells.
Remember that this is not a full service hotel, but a condo/timeshare. There is one restaurant on site and had a lunch as well as a dinner there the week we were in Marco. Food was good, priced fair and service prompt. Other times we either cooked or went off campus for local restaurants. Did walk up to the Marriott Hotel for lunch (Quinn's on the Beach) and likewise it was worth the 1/4 mile walk up the beach.
Apparently the plan by Marriott is to enlarge the property by building two more buildings. When that is to begin is presently unknown so I would definetly ask when making reservations if construction is underway and what might be affected.
Overall I highly recommend Marriott Crystal Shores when vacationing on Marco Island. I look forward to returning next year.

Stayed in the crystal shores for four days in the last week in march. We had a well appointed suite with wonderful views. Hotel located right in the middle of the beach which was excellent. Gorgeous pool and surrounding area. We ate in stilts restaurant most days by the poolside and the food was always second to none. The only downside is that this is the only bar/restaurant at the hotel, nonetheless the food was consistently good!

We stayed at Crystal Shores over spring break with our teenage children. We loved it! We have stayed on Marco many times over the years and we all agreed that this is the best place to stay on the island. We loved our beautiful, large room with two bathrooms and bedrooms. The kitchen was well stocked and had lots of room to cook and move about. The dining table was big enough for our family plus guests. The balcony was dreamy. With two large, comfy lounge chairs and a round table with chairs perfect for breakfast. We spent hours out there playing cards, watching the dolphins play and gazing at the stars. The girls bedroom also had a small balcony with chairs where they would sit at night and play games. The hotel grounds are beautiful. The two pools are fun and were never crowded. There are planned activities all day long so if you have younger children they will be entertained. My kids liked the bean bags, wallhooky, pool table, bonfire and hammocks. The beach is perfect and you can rent chairs and umbrella right out front for the week for $92.00. We were happy we did this as this was where we spent much of our time. We also parasailed from this spot - very fun! The hotel is directly across the street from a movie theater and restaurants. Our favorite restaurant across the street was DiVinci's - the penne elisa pasta is amazing.! The best restaurant on Marco is Sale Pepe. Make reservations to sit outside on the balcony overlooking the ocean. For $35.00 you get appetizer (huge plate of mussels for my son), meal and desert (warm molten cake was his pick). Very special night! Finally, everyone who works at the hotel is wonderful. The front desk staff go out of their way to be kind and helpful. I kept joking with my family that I was beginning to feel like royalty or a movie star. It was hard to come home!! We have stayed at the Marco Ocean Beach Resort, Hilton, and time shares. All are nice, but none come close to this beautiful resort. We will be back!!!

Room Tip: Be sure to request an ocean front room

We travelled to this hotel in March and thoroughly enjoyed our gulf front 2 bedroom unit. The room was beyond our expectations and the large gulf front balcony was absolutely to die for. The beach there is enormous and perfectly groomed. When we arrived it seemed quiet and it is a little quieter than the Marriott Marco Island Resort, but the kids loved swimming in the pool, going down the slide and participating in some of the scheduled activities. The grill there is perfect for meals, drinks and watching sunsets. This is an outstanding property if you are looking for a laid back beach getaway with beautiful accomodations.

If you have a family of four or more, this is a great facility. The rooms are all two bedroom condominiums, with a large common area, full kitchen, kitchenette, dining table, etc. You don't have all the amenities you might have at a regular hotel, but you do have most of them, including maid service, concierge, etc.

The staff is helpful, the kids club is active and the property has many things to do onsite. The beach is perfect and the two pools offer a more adult-oriented area and a kids pool with a slide.

There is an onsite restaurant/bar with average quality food, but a great Caribbean setting. Across the street is some great restaurants (three of them), an Irish Pub, a sports bar, etc. Plenty of food and great quality.

It's not inexpensive, but it is a great value for your money.
