Limited menu, only the freshest ingredients, Walt'z target audience is those who want only the freshest LOCAL seafood (Gulf grouper, snapper, hogfish, shrimp) prepared simply so the fish is the focus and the star of the night, not the spices or the sauce.
I agree with John M - Walt and Sue have realized the dream of the best on the beach and we, their patrons, are the beneficiaries.

Sandy and Bill, who always waits on us at the outside table, and all the staff sure the dream and all contribute much to the experience with their friendly manner and humor.

Food - everything is good no GREAT, I always try something I have not eaten before if I see it on the menu. But there are some constants - ALWAYS conch chowder, I could eat it every day. Always grouper cakes for the wife who won't eat fish anywhere else. She tried to take the mangrove snapper off my plate last Saturday night.

Get there early if you want to eat, but don't get there before us.

Ate at Walt'z last night....amazing. This hidden gem of a place is located down the far east end of the boardwalk just across the street. You have to get there early as there are only a few tables - quaint, old-Florida beachy type place with fresh fish.....they only buy a limited quantity for the night. By 5:30 they were out of the Red shrimp but we decided on the grouper cakes instead as an appetizer.....delicious with a little tang (jalapenos). We also ordered the grouper chowder (not your typical canned stuff) that was loaded with grouper, potatoes, and just the right amount of spice. For dinner we both ordered the lightly fried grouper with coleslaw (best we ever had!) and rice/beans. The food and service were stellar. Don't come if you want just a fast meal - not that kind of place....not that they are slow.....just special. It's a sit back, relax, and take it all in kind of place where you can enjoy good food, fun atmosphere, and be able to chill out. Dinners ran about $25.00 each so a little pricey....but worth every bite.

This pie is the real deal. If you have been to Key West, you know what I am talking about.
Fish is fresh, and very well prepared. Save room for the pie!
Generous pours on the wine also.
Next time we are in the area we are going to Walt'z Fish Shak for sure.

Don't bother with Bubba Gump when Walt's is steps away! Charming ambience of exactly what this place is....a love story .... a vision two people wanting the best for their lives. Food is wonderfully prepared AND the "blonde" is right...no need for salt n pepper at on the table. DELICIOUS FRESH SPOT ON. GO!!!

What a great place. We had a business party of six and waited a short time on a Friday night. Glad we didn't wait long since they closed 1.5 hours later as the fresh fish were all gone. Love the quaint style of the decor. Service was fantastic. Our table ordered grouper and snapper, with the fish perfectly cooked and so fresh. This is the way to enjoy the gulf!
