“Quirky little seafood restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2013

Tucked away in the back of John's Pass Village at the south end of Madeira Beach lies Walt'z Fish Shak. Limited seafood menu that changes daily but all is fresh. Hours are somewhat irregular but that's what makes it kind of quirky, I guess. Small, with only about 10 tables, but with a small outside deck. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Food prepared in a Key West style. A little on the pricey side. Not your average chain seafood restaurant.

“An unexpected pleasure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2013

In the midst of a touristy area loaded with chain restaurants, this was a jewel. It isn't easy to find, but it was worth it. They have wonderful, fresh seafood dishes that are not the run of the mill. I had a conch chowder that was spicy and loaded with flavor. I followed that with grouper cakes that were also rich in flavor. It's a small place with its own mindset. What this means for you is that you get unique seafood dishes that are lovingly prepared.

“WOW! Good things come in little packages!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Although the restaurant is small, the selections limited, and parking a challenge DON'T miss an opportunity to visit Waltz! We went around 7:45 and were immediately seated on the porch. Our waitress was friendly and had great suggestions for our meal. We were in the mood for Grouper, really, who isn't?, so we ordered it grilled and fried. The batter used on the fried fish was very light and gave the fish a great flavor without being overpowering while keeping the fish very moist. The grilled fish was also moist (which isn't always the case) and grilled to perfection! There are limited choices for sides, and we chose the homemade slaw - WOW!! - it was so fresh and totally different than your average slaw - We raved about it! We also got the rice and beans which had just a bit of a kick of spice which complimented the rest of the meal. Although we didn't save room for dessert, our fellow diners across from us told us next time we couldn't come without having a slice of Key Lime pie, their favorite - and they are locals! That speaks volumes to me! Believe me, there will be a next time at Waltz and it can't come soon enough!

Food is awesome and always quality. Pricing is an issue so only go if you want to spend top dollar. The staff is always friendly and it is worth a try

“A fun stop”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2013

This is a neat place, in a very touristry location. I would say the other reviews are right on. Decent food, a tad over priced, good service, if not crowded. The owner was nice to us, not drinking, but it was noon. I believe the whole place could get rowdy at night.
