My husband and I have stayed at Madeira Norte
Condos several times and truly enjoy everything
about them. It is directly on the beach and across the street from John's Pass Village. John's Pass was formed many years ago after a hurricane and it has a marina and a 100 shop village.
At Hubbard's Marina you can go deep sea fishing,
take a dolphin sightseeing tour, a Shell Island
beach trip, a casino cruise or rent jet skis or go parasailing. We go for the calm waters, great grouper and a nice uncrowded beach to relax or walk/jog. They have 1, 2 & 3 bedroom privately owned condos with full kitchens and very large balconies. Some condo owners advertise on the internet but be advised many of these face Ciego Bay/John's Pass - which is a great view but not oceanfront. Some have partial oceanfront side views. Just determine that at the time you inquire. We rent thru Sun Host Resorts but I'm sure there are others.

We have also stayed at Beach Place, a Madeira Norte twin that is the last condo before the drawbridge to Treasure Island. A great location, directly across from John's Pass, but it seems to have more children and you might be bothered by the sound of the "ding-ding-ding" siren every time the drawbridge goes up. It did not bother us once we got use to it but we find Madeira Norte is quieter. Best time to go - late September, October and November - lower rates, fewer people. Grouper Festival the last weekend in October draws about 10,000 people. Beautiful sunsets over the ocean is the best ending to any day. 30 minute drive from Tampa Int'l or take a shuttle to Pinellas Beaches. Great location for family vacations - the beach and John's Pass are rated "G". Many places to eat up and down Gulf Boulevard - at John's Pass eat at Scully's or Friendly Fisherman. For reggae music and drinks, the Tiki Bar at Scully's. Gator's across the drawbridge in Treasure Island for rock music, Florida Football and drinks. Tampa Bay Bucs Raymond James Stadium is a treat!
