“What a lovely experience!”
Reviewed August 8, 2011

It took a long while for me to write a review for this fantastic place (life got in the way), but I feel it's important for fellow travelers to know about little gems, especially places that welcome you AND your dog with open arms!

Kathy, the owner, was by far one of the most charming, welcoming, and friendly people I dealt with (my husband and I travel A LOT!). Both my husband and I, as well as our dog - German Shepherd, Pyper, felt at home pretty much as soon as we entered the property.

The cottages are adorable! Very cozy, full of character and charm. No, they're not Hilton residences, but if that's what you're after, you're in a wrong town. We enjoyed our stay so much, that we actually stayed 2 extra nights.

I would recommend Changing Tides in a heartbeat (in fact I already have :) This is a place were you go when you want some peace and quiet, when you want great recommendations for all things local, when you want a little escape from the tedious, busy, business life. The cottage had everything we needed to set up a temporary and comfortable home for a week. And all that while staying with a LARGE dog! Believe me, that is very rare!

Thank you so much, Kathy, for making our vacation a complete success. Pyper sends special thanks for letting her enjoy the grounds leash-free :)

We had a wonderful time and the owner was friendly, helpful and made you feel like familty (but not the nosy kind of family). Don't stay here if you're looking for a 5 star experience - it isn't for those folks. We had a great time each morning sitting outside our sliding glass door with a mug of hot coffee watching the water - saw dolphins and lots of birds. There are lots of things to do in this part of the state....we visited quite a few parks, enjoyed the great biking trails, hit a great art show that the owner told us about - just had a fun, relaxing stay. Our room had a small kitchen which always helps to save $$ and there was a grill for public use right on the water's edge.

My husband, 2 dogs & 2 cats traveled from Michigan to Changing Tides for a two week vacation (Dec 19- Jan 3) over the holidays. We were all stressed out and needing to get away! After our two week stay, we didn't have a care in the world. We stayed in the music cottage and our pet family enjoyed their stay as much as we did. Morning and evening walks around the neighborhood, trips to the pet friendly beaches, walks around St. John's Pass, and just general bumming around were the highlights of the trip. The cottages supply everything you need if you want to "home cook" and they are within walking distance of several great restaurants. Being able to bring our "four footed fur kids" allowed us to have a great vacation without worry. This is going to be our vacation spot for a very long time...Looking forward to seeing Kathy and Renee again! Don & Michelle (Zoie, Frannie, Ethel and Angel Lucy)

We just spent our first weekend at Changing Tides, and have already booked for our anniversary weekend in October. Kathy was just great and very accommodating in meeting our needs (she had a beach umbrella she let me use) We stayed in the Fisherman's Cottage, #3, and quickly felt at home for the weekend. Also, at not extra cost is Ace, the property security dog, so we felt very safe and could really relax and enjoy the ambiance and cool people staying there!

Changing Tides is truly is a gem and shouldn't be missed!! Thank you Kathy!

My husband and I have been traveling all of our lives, and we are in our late fifties. We traveled to Madeira Beach for a week of relaxation and rest. After reading all of the reviews on Trip Advisor, we picked Changing Tides. It was one of the best experiences of our life. The atmosphere created by the owner, Kathy, is exactly what a person needs to get away from a hectic lifestyle. The lay-out of the cottages encourages interaction among guests, but it also allows privacy, if that is what you are looking for.

We took several sidetrips around the area, and we always looked forward to coming back to the cottages and visiting and relaxing with friends that we made during our visit. This is a pet friendly environment, and we made alot of new animal friends also.

We will definately return to the area and to the cottages for future visits....
